Q: Of these 9 equities + ETFS, which would you see as reasonable to hold on to if one believes there is a prospect of recovering from the current economic storm from the virus? Some have been held for a long time are still positive, most are down; TOU is the worst (85% drop) and is now very small. They are held in a registered account, so tax loss selling is not an issue. Q: Good Evening
NWC
It is my understanding that NWC is providing food like the supermarkets to the public. Therefore, is it a safe bet during this coronavirus environment? Have they ever cut their dividend ? Is their dividend safe?
As well, some analysts saw their acquisition of an airline as negative. What is your opinion?
Is it advisable to average down at this level?

I own both the stock and a couple of their bonds. What is your opinion with respect Rio Can surviving the coronavirus crisis?

Q: Thanks for your work, much appreciated. Regarding dividends from Canadian banks: I have problems figuring they won’t cut. The crisis will take months or most likely 1-2 years (vaccine is the only definitive solution, what we are doing now is only mitigation). The debt load will be very large (mortgage, loans, etc.). Banks will have to keep some money for provision.
Am I missing something ?

Q: DFN, the high-dividend split share fund that people sometimes ask about, has missed its first dividend since its inception in 2004. It even paid the monthly dividend throughout 2008-09. I see the share price is up this morning. I don't think people realize they will not receive the dividend and that it could be many months or even years before the dividend returns.

Q: Fiscal and monetary policy is point the direction that if and when markets recover there is going to be a lot of money and keep money.

Q: With what appears to be both Canada and the US now passing massive stimulus packages, would you consider now a good time to start taking some positions on companies while they are down? Or do you think there is still room to bottom out in 2-3 weeks when the virus starts to hit us (and the US) like it has Italy and other places?

Q: Hi there,

The market has rallied hard over the last 3 trading days. Still it is far off from the all the highs when looking back. In your professional experience and years of investment experience, can you comment on where you think the market goes from here? Do you think this is a head fake / bull trap and we are heading lower in the coming months and there will be better entry points over the next 6 months? I've heard more people say U shaped recovery, and a couple saying V shaped. What is your positioning on this? It would great to hear your perspective on the current market and where it might go over the next 12 months.

Q: Could you provide an update on this company, in particular, its level of debt, cash flow, growth opportunities and ability to survive through the market turmoil and a recession. The company has been steadily declining for the past several months so its recent low may not necessarily be related to the volatile market. With the downturn my position is relatively small and I am trying to decide whether to hold, add, or sell outright and use the money to buy something in a similar field (beer, wine or distillery related) with perhaps more potential over the next two to three years. Q: Hi- it seems everyone is walking around with alcohol these days. Groceries, toilet paper and booz. Any idea on how to play that? Does consumption at liquor stores make up for the lack of consumption at restaurants. There;s really nothing else to do but drink. Even my girlfriend has gone to the liquor store more often than usual last few weeks.
Can you give me your thoughts, and perhaps a few ways to play this? Thanks.

Q: As North American jurisdictions begin, finally, to transition to halfway-decent testing regimes, will investors begin to discount the economic cost of social distancing? Yes, the pandemic will continue to grow, and yes, there seems to be excessive optimism in the market's response to government interventions, but are we now past the point where events or results could cause investors to panic as they did last week? I've been trying not to buy into what smells like a bear market rally but now I wonder if the cost of recession has already been baked-in.
