Q: I'm 84 and depend on dividends for income. In the Utility category I have AQN, EMA, BEP.UN. I'd like to add a couple more to this. Can you suggest a few that I can check out. Thanks, Ted

Q: There's no "double exchange" of currency on the distributions. From the BEP website:

Distribution Currency Option

The quarterly distributions payable on the Partnership’s LP Units are declared in U.S. dollars. Beginning with the fourth quarter distribution payable December 31, 2016, unitholders resident in the United States will receive payment in U.S. dollars and unitholders resident in Canada will receive the Canadian dollar equivalent unless they request otherwise. The Canadian dollar equivalent of the quarterly distribution will be based on the Bank of Canada daily average exchange rate on the record date or, if the record date falls on a weekend or holiday, on the Bank of Canada daily average exchange rate of the preceding business day.

Registered unitholders resident in Canada who wish to receive a U.S. dollar distribution and registered unitholders resident in the United States wishing to receive the Canadian dollar distribution equivalent should contact Brookfield Renewable’s transfer agent, Computershare Trust Company of Canada, in writing at 100 University Avenue, 8th Floor, Toronto, Ontario M5J 2Y1 or by phone at 1-800-564-6253. Beneficial unitholders (i.e., those holding their units in street name with their brokerage) should contact the broker with whom their units are held.

Q: Hi Peter &Ryan
I wished to take a position in this stock on the US side of my cash account due to the div being in US $ I was told by my trading house that although the div is in US$ it must be paid in C$ which would mean a double exchange this is in my opion absurd .
Could you explain the rational for this that Brookfield is using .
Which should be a good stock for a US div is not good due to the double exchange.

Q: Hi, can you please comment on today's increase in trading volume. Also, how does this company compare to others in the industry pertaining to affo. With the upcoming capex and very few "buys" on the stock, do you feel this company has a higher probability of surprising to the upside? With payout ratio at around 60%, do you think they will raise the dividend anytime soon? Thanks! :)

Q: What discount broker would 5i recommend for a DIY investor who has a good knowledge level of the investment world? Things to be considered would be portfolio management, alerts, news reels, trading fees, real time quotes, charting capabilities, US & CDN Market coverage, consolidated reporting (across various accounts - e.g. RRSP, TFSA, LIRA, ORDER).
