Q: In my portfolio I work only on book cost basis. I do not take in consideration any gains unless I "crystalize" them. I am constantly following my cost base behaviour and act without hesitation if on any of my positions, I am down an amount that I consider unhealthy. I make a difference between terminal losses and temporary losses.
Reviewing Altagas for which so far I only have a small loss, I will appreciate your evaluation on the potential for a terminal loss (bankrupcy} and/or temporary losses, considering that I will sell anyway if my losses expand beyond my own comfort threshold.
Thanks
CDJ

Q: The majority of my portfolio is invested in the TSX 60 through XIU. I am working on diversifying my portfolio and thought I would start off with the Real Estate sector and am considering ZRE.

Would you have any issues about selling about $13,000 of XIU to buy ZRE and achieve a 5% allocation in the Real Estate sector?

Also, I noticed that ZRE was dropped from the Model Income Portfolio in July 2017. Do you have any issues with ZRE specifically?

Q: Good morning.
I am looking to swap out some preferred shares that have dropped in value, for others that are approximately the same price. One that I found was TA-PR-H, however, I show them as not being profitable, and with high debt. You don't seem positive on the stock, according to other questions, but would you invest in their prefs?
Thanks, and enjoy your weekend everyone.

Q: Your comments:
would you agree at oil prices at $70 ish - $30ish discount for Canadian select oil and 3 year horizon. thanks for you view .
GLOBE :
"While we continue to believe that there are a number of strong buying opportunities in this group, we believe that taking shelter in Suncor, the best Canadian Integrated E&P in our view, is a prudent investment decision at this time. Given the company's status as a top-tier operator, and most profitable Canadian refiner, we are perplexed as to the company's relative underperformance as of late and believe that current equity price levels present a strong entry point for investors."

Q: Hello Team,

Is their an American tobaco ETF that covers these 3 stocks that are mentioned in your
5i Research report on the Marijuana Industry? ( Fantastic read).
Plus, all things considered between the 3, which individual stock is the most likely in your opinion to get involved in the Industry?

Thanks,
Stephen

Q: Could you compare and contrast the benefits and regulatory considerations of tax loss selling in the US relative to Canada? Is the form and strategy similar or quite different and to what extent?
(This request is for broad brush information not detail)
Thank you, Hugh

Q: JPMorgan is predicting a 50% chance of a US recession in the next 2 years. One would likely impact Canadian markets like 2008-9. I started investing in the markets this past April and was up over 6% in a short time until Trump started his tariff tirade and eventual war (plus other contributing factors) and now am down over 8%. It would seem this volatility in the markets will only get worse until it gets better. That said, if I recall correctly, BMO recently came out and predicted a TSX rebound that could hit 17,000 before EOY. I am just trying to figure out should I ride out the storm or jump ship at the next port. Based on your market update, specifically, "Investors should keep in mind this is just one quarter in a journey measured in years.", should one still consider riding out the storm?

Q: ATVI - Milan on October 15 questioned about ATVI and you said it was fine to buy. Also on October 15 there was an article that ATVI along with a joint venture with other companies were going to put 500 Veterans to work. Following that, over the next 2 days the stock dropped over 10%. Your thoughts on this drop.
TEAM - On October 19 John asked a question about the quarterly results, and you indicated you were fine with the results. Over the next 2 days, the stock dropped over 10%. How come?
Would I be better to sell ATVI and TEAM and add it to my holdings of ILMN and SQ? Thanks Dennis.
