Q: Could you please rank in order as what you see as having the best long term growth potential? Or any names in the same field that you believe are even better. I’m pondering the companies that will benefit as a result of the report released today by the Canada Energy Regulator.
Thanks

Q: Hello 5i,
Fresh off a short attack on NVEI the US government has acknowledged they are looking into short-selling. It will be the usual debacle that accomplishes nothing.
Unethical short-selling while launching documents to the general public will only stop when disgruntled investors take matters into their own hand and remove upper management staff in organizations such as Spruce Point Management. Their philosophy is to repeat the NVEI and LSPD short-selling fiasco as a strategy to make huge profits.
It is truly unfortunate that human greed exceeds logical life decisions, It is amazing how many push this limit when it comes to money.
I'll be chilling in Cuba with a few drinks next week. Hopefully Ben Axler sits beside me. Now THAT would present an interesting life decision.
Cheers,

Q: Hello 5i team,
AEM has been on a steady decline since Oct of last year (~70%). Is this around the same time as news came of the merger with Kirkland?
I was thinking of entering into the gold/mineral space since I have no exposure. I looked at the slides for the merger, and paints a rosy picture (synergies, dividend growth, etc...). The markets do not seem to like this merger very much based on the price.
Is there anything you know of that would cause this drop aside from markets in general being weary of company mergers?
Thank You,
Andrew

Q: Hi Team,
What's your current views of MED and SWKS? I have been underwater pretty much on both these I bought them. Should I continue to hold or is there other stocks I should be replacing these with instead that stand out as screaming buys as of today? I particularly don't understand the weakness of SWKS. From what I can see it trades much cheaper valuation than most chips stocks, has good growth, has a partnership with Apple (which I know some view as a negative), is in the 5G business as well which should be a highly growing sector. The lack of interest is a bit confusing. Would it be a takeover target? You would think if chips are so hard to come buy perhaps apple would just buy them with their pocket change one day to bolster their supply chain? Thoughts? Thanks
Shane.

Brookfield Renewable Partners L.P. (BEP.UN)
-
Northland Power Inc. (NPI)
-
Boralex Inc. Class A Shares (BLX)
Q: I'm down about 15% on BIP.UN and am thinking of a tax loss sale and purchasing either NPI or BLX; and then reentering BEP in January. I currently hold CPX and AQN.
A similar question had been asked previously in June, and 5i's recommendation was either NPI or BLX. Has anything changed with these companies since June? What would be your preference for a short term hold today and why?
Many thanks!

Q: If all proceeds according to the news release - what do you think of this deal? If you held some shares what would you do - take the shares or cash? Can you clarify the Contingent Value Right? Thank you for your response, as well thank you for all the valuable information gained through the subscription!
Q: I have a less than 1% position in MCR and am looking at topping it up. My only other Energy position is ENB which is 4%
Are you still comfortable with the prospects for this company ? If so, given the low volume, any suggestions on how to approach buying ?My thought was to put in a limit order for 2.60 and just let that sit until the end of December. Any suggestions would be welcome. Many thanks

Q: Dear 5i,
Currently, I use a Canadian discount brokerage which charges $9.99 per trade. I generally do not trade much and I am not a professional trader, but I am considering having one or two more accounts where I may trade more frequently. I read an article which stated that some "commission free" brokerages may make money by/from:
1. foreign exchange fees
2. delaying market data
3. sending trades to 3rd parties
Can you help explain how a broker makes money by delaying market data?
Can you help explain if #2,3 may apply for accounts held with a Canadian "commission free" broker? Would this also apply to a Canadian "non commission free" broker?
thanks

Transcontinental Inc. Class A Subordinate Voting Shares (TCL.A)
-
Transcontinental Inc. Class B Multiple Voting Shares (TCL.B)
Q: The multi voting shares trade at a ~5% premium to the subordinates, is there a coattail provision for the sub shares in the event of a takeover/privatization and how likely is this considering the family ownership?
TCL.a is in the Income portfolio at a 2.5% weight and 38% reduction from purchase price, would you consider the weight appropriate, and with an event such as a takeover would you expect a premium close to what was paid for the shares or could it possibly be a takeunder?

Q: Well, count me confused.
“The Distribution is scheduled to be paid on December 22, 2021 (the “Payment Date”) to holders of Common Shares of record as of the close of business on December 15, 2021 (the “Record Date”). Subject to confirmation from the Toronto Stock Exchange, ECN Capital expects the Common Shares to commence trading on a “due bill” basis at the opening of trading on December 14, 2021 and to commence trading “ex-distribution” on December 23, 2021. The due bill redemption date will be December 24, 2021.”
This seems to indicate that you must be in ownership of ECN on December 14 to receive the dividend/distribution on the 22nd.
Is this some sort of financespeak? Are they aspiring politicians?

Colliers International Group Inc. Subordinate Voting Shares (CIGI)
-
Brookfield Asset Management Inc Class A Limited (BAM)
Q: Do you think CIGI or BAM could be affected by the Evergrande debacle?
Q: Peter, my son asked me about buying shares in Vacasa, vacation rental company based in Portlant. It IPO'd on Monday (SPAC) with an inauspicious beginning! Down as much as 12% today. The vacation rentals space looks interesting and this co. may be worth looking at later as a reopening play (whenever that really occurs), but so far the company is losing money every quarter from what I can gather.
I recommended holding off for now and have put it on a watchlist, but I'd be interested in hearing what you would look for before you would actually consider actually buying shares in this company.

Q: What company do you like better today for a long term growth investor?
Thanks
Thanks
Q: Gresham asked a question on Friday about moving stocks/cash in a non-registered account, funded from borrowed money, to a TFSA. You indicated that the interest would continue to be deductible. That is not correct, as interest on borrowed money used to make TFSA contributions is not tax deductible.
Q: Fairfax is offering to buy back shares between $425 and $500 US. Do you have any thoughts or recommendations re this offer ?
