Q: These symbols are confusing.
They are both showing as having the same US$ div'd.
Same name and both say :CA on you web site,
They appear to be the same but .U trades in US$ on the TSX.
The .UN one is aa newer list and trades in Cdn $.
Any advantage to one over the other?
Cdn $ one seems to do less volume.
I always get gypped on conversion when I trade US$ in a Canadian $ account. Even the trading fee is in US$.
Would appreciate your expert opinion.

Q: Thanks for the great services and very meaningful insights. I had asked this questions 2 days ago not sure if t was received by your team as I didn't see a response. I am a long term Investor. Normally I don't trade but want to try out the Tax loss strategy . Planning to Invest about $25k in 4 to 5 US or Canadian stocks which are oversold due to tax loss claims. Planning to buy this week and sell them in Q1 2022. What are your strongest convictions/ recommendation on this strategy at the current level. Can you please provide a few names that you have the most conviction in(Not necessarily the most upside)? Please rank them, provide a suggested price and the reason for your strong conviction.

Thanks and Wish a very Happy Holidays to everyone at 5I team.

Q: First and foremost, thank you very much for your coaching which makes DIY investing much easier.

In the more aggressive part of my portfolio which is otherwise well balanced, these stocks are deep under water but at a relatively low percentage. There is no tax implication and a 3 years horizon minimum. I know you don't like averaging down but at a year end and beginning of a new one, timing (sorry) could be an advantage.

Having said that I have 2 questions,

1-Would you go bottom fishing while the price is low and hope for a Santa Claus rally (hoped for) or wait till things settle down?

2-If I decided to add to these existing positions, could you rank them in order of preference with a short term view please.

Thank you and happy holidays to all team members.

Q: What is you expected "reasonable" ECN share price after it pays out the $7.50 per share to shareholders?

The reason why I ask is because is my ECN share are held in my RRIF account and I can't take that money out. I was entertaining the thought of just reinvesting that money into the newly "shrunken" down ECN shares - as long as it will be traded at a reasonable price.

Thanks.

Q: What Cdn or U.S. companies would you consider to be the most likely takeover targets in 2022? Can you rank them in terms of quality even if a takeover doesn't materialize?

Q: Everyone,
My investment strategy is rather simple, buy the best of the best stocks and wait, wait, and wait. I haven’t sold stocks in more than three years. In order to sell I wait until something fundamental have changed. Time is on my side for gains. But should I think about other trading strategies, such as puts / calls etc etc … ?

Q: A few years ago in Investor Suite there was an article suggesting that the best performing Canadian Bank for next year is the worst performing bank from this year.

When I did this for 2021, the worst performer of 2020 was BNS. (Am up 27% on this investment YTD) As you are closing down shop on the 24th, I am asking this question earlier than usual.

What is the WORST performing Canadian Bank of 2021 YTD?

Thanks

Sheldon

Ps Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.

Q: What do you consider a poor, ok, good, and very good return (ranges please) for a diversified portfolio over a 5-10 year period? I want to understand the comparative performance of my portfolios, which I have been holding for 7-12 years now. My portfolios are not similar.

Q: Hello Peter and team,
Can you please provide explanations of how these etfs work in terms of hedge and unhedged. XSP tracks the 500 US index but it is hedged to the canadian dollar. Does this mean that if the Canadian dollar goes up, there will be no impact currency wise. Tech.B tracks the 6 large tech companies but it is unhedged. What does that mean in relation to the tech etf which tracks same stocks but it is neither hedged or unhedged as the tech.b is doing better lately? Much appreciated, and thank you.

Q: With proceeds from a recently matured GIC that paid 3% I am thinking about buying 5 Canadian dividend stocks with a current yield focus and that as a mini portfolio gives me the best chance to get my capital back in 5ish years. In effect creating my own market linked GIC that I get income from, not my bank for guaranteeing the capital on a specific day 5 years hence

Categories and top contenders in each to buy today are;

Bank - BNS
Lifeco - SLF
Utility - FTS
Telco - T
Pipeline - ENB

What do you think of the strategy? What would be your top choices today in each category?
