Q: I have seen several analysts commenting recently on how undervalued small cap stocks are compared to larger cap stocks. Some saying we are at the cheapest levels they have ever seen for small caps. If you were to put together a portfolio of 10-12 Canadian small cap stocks intending to benefit from a return to more typical valuations, which stocks would you include? Not thinking about highest risk types, like early phase biotech, exploration stage mining companies, but rather, for high quality, profitable, growing businesses.

Q: I would like to keep "high risk stocks" in my non-registered account, aka trading account, rather than in my TFSA or RRSP or LIRA accounts. But I'm wondering what the attributes or metrics or characteristics of "high risk stocks" are in Canada or US. Keen to learn from you what to look for for such stocks....Thanks....Tom

Q: Hi 5i,
I’ve listened to several interviews with PMs who are pitching the case for insurance brokerage stocks for low capital needs and a built in inflation hedge.

Can I ask you opinion on Brown & Brown? Are there other names that you prefer in the space?

Thank you!

Q: I'm trying to include tax planning in my investment decisions more than ever. Given that our Canadian governments have insatiable demand for new tax revenue and that politicians love to shower the electorate with new "free stuff" which of the following tax easing shelters do you feel will be attacked first? Will it be reducing the principal residence exemption, increasing capital gains rates, decreasing the dividend tax credit rate or something else?

Q: I am considering getting into bond ETF's, given that we are apparently hitting pause on rate hikes and will potentially begin to cut rates in 2024. I realize that you cannot predict timing but would you consider this a good time to be getting into bonds?

What is your view on bond ETF's FCGB and DXDB, or can you offer another bond ETF to consider?

Thank you
Tim

Q: With the new TFSA limit, how would split into 4 purchases with a 20 year hold. Assuming RRSP is diversified and with no other holdings. Does BAM, BN or TOI hit your radar. Also, I am retiring in 20 years. Thanks as always.

Q: Retired, dividend-income investor. Long term holder of BNS. In Feb '22 I trimmed a bit at $92. I recently added some back at $58.

With today's announcement and subsequent sell off, the dividend for BNS is now 7.4%. Normally the big Canadian bank yields are in the range of 4-5%. Assuming there is no dividend cut, then for the yield for BNS to get back to...say 5%...from its current 7.4%, then the stock price "should" eventually have to appreciate by a corresponding 48% (7.4 / 5.0).

What are your thoughts about simply buying and/or holding BNS for the current 7.4% yield and eventual capital appreciation...resulting in a total return of roughly 50+% over the next # years? This makes the big assumptions of a) NO dividend cut...but no big Canadian bank has cut it's dividend since WW2 and b) the new CEO can lead a turn around.

Thanks...Steve

Q: Hi, I sold CROX and ATZ both for a tax loss but both have now come back and seem to have good momentum. Would you be buying either or both of these now? Do you prefer one over the other? They both seem to be moving almost in tandem at this time. Is there another name in the space you like more. Thank you in advance!

Q: Hi!

I am wondering if Peter can take some time to put together some words or a video about the Balanced Equity Portfolio and path forward here. We used to get regular commentary on the Portfolio via appearances on shows like Market Call but now we don't get that anymore due to the BNN change in their rules.

Can Peter walk through where he thinks things are headed, potential to find the next great multibagger stocks for the portfolio, view of the current holdings, etc.?

There's a number of solid long term companies in there. Do we ever see a point where they run their course and we sell them BEFORE they have problems and destroy a bunch of our value (thank god we trimmed some ATZ at $60 a little while ago!).

Thanks!
