Q: At the present time

Can you give me the names of the 5 most beaten up / best value, blue chip dividend paying Canadian equities, with emphasis on safety of dividend.

Sectors are irrelevant.

Thanks

Q: I want to re-balance my portfolio across sectors but I found that a few holdings can fit more than one sector for all practical purposes.

CCL.B is classified as materials, but can we also consider it as consumer goods given its labeling and container products directly serve the retail market? If so would that be c. cyclical or non-cyclical?

MG is classified as c. cyclical, but can we also consider it as industrial?

I have a hard time with FSV which is classified as financial, but to me consumer non-cyclical (recurrent residential residential/condo maintenance fees, property services) is a better fit.

Finally, how about MDA? Can it be considered either technology or telecommunications?

Thank you for validating the above, it will be useful to explore my options.

Q: Hi 5i,

In rebalancing my portfolio, I find that I am sadly lacking in tech stocks. At present, I have: CSU 4%, KXS 1.5%, Shop 0.4%. Could you suggest options to bring the total up to about 15% and designating whether they would be better suited for an RRIF or TFSA account? As a senior, I should be more conservative but, at the same time, I can stand some risk.

With thanks.

Q: Can I please have your analysis of the following stocks that are in a TSFA: BMO, DRT, IRG, MDA, PHO, SJ AND SYZ.
Long term investments. Thank you.

Q: In my technology sector I hold CSU, ABT,ITC, KXS, MDA and OTEX. These stocks share equal weights except for Constellation (CSU) is up more than 300% and is now taking up 30% of my 15.5% weighting in this sector. Although I do not want to sell CSU, should I be looking at rebalancing and replacing perhaps half of my CSU with another tech stock? If so, would you suggest a new one or recommend adding to one or more that I already have. Thank you for your views on this.

Q: Hello 5i

I'm thinking of selling both MDA and EFN (down 30% on each), and consolidating them into MAL. Do you think this would be a good switch? I understand that EFN is unrelated to the two others, but it's a small holding and I would like to consolidate it into a more attractive name.

Thanks,
Jordan

Q: Hi 5i

First a comment-it is puzzling why you get so many questions outside of the stocks on your coverage list or portfolios. With the results BE port has achieved it seems to make sense to follow your advice rather than making our own picks. Similarly if you get less questions on uncovered stocks you will have more time for the ones you recommend.

My question is I currently have about 4% in BEP.UN (42.58) which has done great. 2.5% in MDA (63.93) down 25% as I bought just before you removed from BE. 2% in HR.UN (23). And less than 1% in AVO (15.20) bought near peak so down 50%. Also own more than half of BE plus 5% AAPL and GOOGL, 4% DIS and TD.

Don't yet have SYZ,GUD,AIF,CLS,CSU,KXS,NFI,PBH, or TOY. Should I get rid of any of the stocks listed in first section? And which of the BE I don't have yet should I get soon? Have enough cash that I could add 3 and risk tolerance is high.

Thanks, Greg

Q: I own 100 shares of MDA, purchased at 80.95. Down by 15K now. I am supportive of the stock and appreciate the dividend they pay. My shares are in an RSP. My question is this: I am trying to decide if I should buy more. Everyone says "buy on dips" and at the same time everyone says "don't double down on a losing stock". How do I figure out if this is a good stock that I would be buying on a dip, or if I should avoid buying more and maybe even sell it? I have looked at the fundamentals but am stuck. Thanks very much again, Marilyn

Q: Hello Peter and team, MDA is taking a hit today, almost 4% drop. Are there any reasons for this? I have a full position in MDA, should I switch to something else? If yes, what would it be (in the industrial sector)? Regards, Gervais
