Q: I am a 3 days old subscriber and I have few questions:
1. What is the event that would trigger a new report on a company that you already covered? Is it a rating change? ... or a periodical update?
2. How often (in average) do you initiate a new coverage for a new company?
3. Model portfolios do contain a lot of companies that you do not cover. Would you consider covering them? ... specially the ones that are NR, I'm not sure what to make of them.
If you consider that there are questions of interest for the public domain feel free to post the answers for general consumption.

Q: Hi All at 5i! A quick question about tax loss selling. When would it be ideal to sell a stock at a loss to offset gains, considering that I want to buy the stock back. Would now be good? Or wait until Nov? Dec? Also, I own CBO at a loss at the moment. Considering that interest rates are going up, should I sell it now at a loss( to offset capital gains) and buy it back later? Q: So what do we do with Linamar. Do we hold it or sell? I had assumed with the agreement on trade between USA and Canada that the stock would be a good company to own. Not so it seems. Any idea why? Is it a concern that we are nearing the end of the automobile cycle and earnings will start to trend down? There is a thought that we are in the last inning for companies such as Magna and Linamar . Do you concur? Anyway the stock seems to be unloved, not sure why . Perhaps you can shed some light on this. How do you see earnings over the next 2 years?

Q: I was following this company IOTS due to its positioning in the internet of things space. I was looking at the company balance sheet and it seems to have reasonable revenues yet a negative cash flow. Do you think this company is a reasonable small cap buy? Are there any other companies in this space you suggest buying instead?

Q: My friend has $150,000. to invest, she has a time frame of 10 years minimum before she will need the money. She is interested in dividend stocks and wants to have a balanced portfolio, can you suggest what stocks she should purchase for this portfolio, she does not own any stocks at the present time.

Q: I have a question about 323 .
Hi,
I sold a small position on GC for tax loss. I could do the same for TSGI (andl plan to buy back)? But I do not want to do that in case something good could happen in short term. I have a -25% on TSGI currently. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Q: Are you of 2 minds on ATA? I get the sense you like the company which seems to be doing well including setting new highs recently. One the other hand your comments seem to suggest that you don’t think it is really a growth company. Maybe you feel the valuation is too high for a slow growth company?
I like the momentum, the sector and the management. In spite of what my iPhone says they don’t pay a dividend so I sort of feel they are a growth company after all. They appear to straddle manufacturing and IT. I suspect there must be some tie-in with the University of Waterloo which may help them stay on top of the technology race.
Any comments?

Q: I'm curious as to what you think of Dollarama now that it’s fallen so much. The company's growth forecast was lowered, but I’m thinking with high household debt and rising interest rates, many people might shop there out of necessity. Do you recommend it as a buy at these levels, and what are the risks associated with the stock? Do you think it’s better to wait until December to buy?

Q: I own the following in a non-registered account. (I own growth stocks in my TFSA, and US/international equities and Canadian bonds in my RRSP). The goal is to DRIP the following stocks in my non-registered account until I retire and then use the income only to cover some monthly expenses.
CPD; BNS; SLF; FTS; ENB; ALA; BCE; CHP.UN; NWH.UN; VET; NWC; and EIF.
Do you have any concerns with any of these companies long term?

Q: I assumed, along with some of your earlier comments, that the NAFTA resolution would provide some relief for stocks like NFI. It's concerning when a stock should be behaving better, but doesn't. . Any idea why the continued downward pressure? I know you will advocate continuing to hold, however, do you have a very strong conviction with NFI? Thanks

Q: Thanks for the News Update. and it mentions adding Industrials. For that last few weeks, I'm pondering adding industrial positions to my balanced, diversified US portfolio. I assigned a 15% weighting to the US industrial sector. My current positions are UTX at 4.6% weighting and FDX at 2.6% These two total 7.2% and as a result, I could add 7.8%. Please provide a few US names in this sector for my consideration, including adding to bring FDX to 4%........Appreciate you insights....Tom
