Q: I have room to add one of these to my TFSA now and another in January. I see 2 of these are in your model portfolios. In what order would you purchase these 3 or am I getting too picky ? SCORE had a huge recent run up; would you wait for it to settle down. I like it’s theme and strong insider ownership Thanks

Q: Your thoughts on:
1. Stock Rover versus any other of your suggestions for stock & portfolio tracking sites/businesses (that include tracking Canadian stocks (e.g. TSE) stocks)?
2. How secure is it to have these companies (e.g. stock rover) track our individual portfolios? They are gathering such personal financial information on us that i imagine other third parties would love to get their hands on- How much risk of our data ($ personal holdings/worth) being shared, or not so much?

Q: Hello 5i Team
I am calculating 3, 5, 10 and 20 year compound annual growth (CAG) rates for dividends for select companies.
The questions I have are:
1 – Are CAG rates calculated for the company fiscal years (i.e. the Canadian Banks fiscal year ends October 31) or the calendar year (December 31)?
2 – Are CAG rates calculated for the dividend declaration date, record date or payment date? For some companies the payment date is after their fiscal year ends (i.e. CNQ with a year end of December 31 and the fourth quarter payment date is January 01 of the following year).
3 – Do you know what Bloomberg/Eikon/TSX use in their calculations?

Q: Morning team,

It seems like base metals, especially copper, have been on a run lately, and I keep hearing the narrative that all the global government stimulus is/will fuel a bull market based around infrastructure spending. My questions are; 1) do you generally agree with this theory?, and 2) which base metals companies do you prefer? So far I've been looking at RIO, TECK, and FCX.

Q: From today's Wall street Journal:
Tesla’s 125-fold increase isn’t even the best gain since it listed. That honor, at least among the top 3,000 stocks in the U.S., goes to Xpel Inc., which makes film to protect car paintwork. It was a penny stock with a market value of a bit more than half a million dollars when Tesla came to market, and has since soared almost 170,000%, leaving Tesla in the dust.

I cringe when I read this. I bought 400,000 shares of this company at less than 15 cents in 2011. Just goes to show you, that it never hurts to hold on to some position. Alas I sold after making a 10 bagger.

Q: Hi 5i team,
It seems the IPO market is in a frenzy these days, with DASH and ABNB, in particular. I always enjoy reading Professor Damodaron, as per your recent blog, and his musings on ABNB. He views fair value at $36B. The IPO was priced at $68, resulting in an initial company value of $47 billion. It opened around $145, about 3 times the Professor’s view of fair value.
Some market analysts view these IPOs as a market top, a view I don’t share. I just think people are crazy to pay these prices to get a pizza delivered to your door.
Thanks again for your thoughts on this frenzy and what it means for the markets, if anything.

Q: I'm a bit confused about your interest expense deductibility answers on money borrowed in order to generate income. Aside from a line of credit, looking solely at a mortgage, is the requirement in order to be able to deduct the mortgage interest that the borrower use the borrowed funds to invest in Canadian dividend paying equities solely? So the borrower could not deduct interest expense if funds were invested in non-dividend payers? Appreciate the clarification on this.

Q: I’ve been very fortunate with LSPD since I first bought it at $18 and continued to buy on the way up to $65. I’m up over 130% overall. But now to tough part...when to sell. It seems that it has a very long runway and because of that, i’m hesitant to sell a single share. I have it in multiple accounts ( about 3/4 in a tfsa, and 1/4 in a LIRA ). I’m 47 and 10 year away (I hope) from retirement but consider myself an aggressive investor and have some stomach for volatility (how can you not during these times) Given where the SP is today, where do you see the stock going in the next 2-3years? Would you sell and buy something else? Or, let it run? Looking for ideas.
