Q: Hi,
I am trying to analyze/understand risk/reward of the balance portfolio in the wake of the market meltdown. I noted it has underperformed relative to the benchmark(XIC) in 2019 which in my understanding, was good for growth stocks. However when the market comes down, it looks like the portfolio come downs more than the bench mark in the last week. I understand 5i always looks at the long term view. But I am wondering if there is any fundamental weakness in this stock selection compared to the broader market ? or this is just a disconnect to fundamentals and is a big buying opportunity ?
Q: The markets have taken a hammering the last three days due to fears of the corona virus. The Utilities have been hit too, but far less so than other areas. The exception seems to be Brookfield Renewable, which has taken a hammering three straight days and is down over 5% today. It's acting like a high priced tech stock with heavy business in China, not a utility. Is there anything you can think of which explains this?
Q: Not a question, but adding context to an answered question. BNS stated last year that they were moving from a semi annual dividend increase to an annual. That is why there was no increase this quarter like some of the other banks. I believe the annual is in q2.
Q: Hi Peter & 5i,
BNS had been increasing their dividend every second quarter. Did BNS give their stated reason for not increasing the dividend this quarter in their quarterly report; or do you have an opinion why they didn't increase?
Thanks for your insight and advice.
Cheers
Q: You last answered a question on CXB in November in which you said that CXB's 4th quarter earnings would be key in assessing the comp;any. Those earnings are now out. What do you think?
Q: Good Evening
In one of your answers today about Magna you indicated that the corona virus will affect negatively "everything". Yet, today we saw that some stocks like Northview REIT and Fortis were not affected. Can you please elaborate which sectors will not be affected by the corona virus?
Thanks
