Q: Hello: I have owned Stantec for years, in an open account. I can see it climbing higher this week. Wondering if you might suggest it would be a good time to sell it? i.e. is it a range bound stock, just popping up for a bit?

I currently own ALA with a purchase price of $20.80.
I desire to sell the stock at $20.80 or greater before the end of 2019 with a preference after November 25 so I receive the December 15 dividend.
Which is the better option:
1 - Do I enter a limit order ($20.80) with an expiry date of December 27 and wait for the order to fill?
2 - Do I sell a call option (December 20, 2019) with a strike price of $21 which provides about $0.15 per share (before commission) and if the shares are not called away, then sell the shares after December 20? The option premium will further reduce my cost basis.
If I sell a call option with a strike price of $21.00, if the share price rises to $21.00 on November 25 (as an example) are the shares called away immediately or are the shares called away only if the share price on December 20 is equal to or greater than $21.00?

The question regarding the .05 cents. It intigued me also, I have seen 1 cent differences in trades also.
I think it is coming from the ''obligation '' of brokers to cover the the trades in the the ''best interest'' of their clients. So the first lot is sold or bought at .o5 less that what is supposed the ask or bid and the rest at existing bid.
I have lost also bids that were not covered for the same reason or only 500 units for a 10000 units bid... The ''creativity'' of the brokers never stops.
Everybody need to have their share of the ''retail''cake.
I have seen 1000 trades sold or bought per lots of 100 shares more and more. Also there is the practice of brokers to actually show on level 2 just 50% of the orders which is so wrong...
I have learned to live with it after so many years and moved on
I do not know if i am right in my suggestions, so any corrections will be welcomed.

There seems to be a lot of confusion. Which of BEP, BIP, BPY are going to be relocated to Toronto and have the 5 for 4 "Stock Split"? Any idea yet of the Ex-Dividend Dates?

Q: The way I see it the upcoming "dividend" will be in effect a 5 for 4 split of existing units and I would expect markets to adjust SP's to account for this, correct?

Also TD has no conversions of US$ dividends if held in a US$ account unlike RBC. I expect to receive the entire $2.06 US per unit in my US account this year. The only time conversion would happen is if units are held in a $C account.

Q: BNE is the only E&P company which I held since Canadian oil companies fell out of favour. It paid a strong divi, high returns on wells, insider buying... none of this seemed to have saved the stock. Is it too cheap to sell now - buy sell or hold?

Q: BEP and BIP have each grown to just over 9% of my portfolio. That’s great, but I’m in a quandary. With other stocks I might be tempted to trim and reinvest, but there seems to be momentum here and the spin out sounds interesting. What say you? Trim and reinvest? If trim, then back down to 5% each?

Then.... where to reinvest? I’m well diversified and would look for income stocks with some growth potential. Mainly, I’d want something that is a good replacement for the potential and stability of Brookfield. Perhaps a different Brookfield? Perhaps park it for the potential to pick something sold for a tax loss?

Q: I am down considerably with this stock and am wondering about replacing it with Magna since it may offer more growth and dividend potential ? Your opinion is appreciated. Joe

Q: Please give insight on the business model that CPSI follows. It just reported reasonable results. Hares gapped up for only a day before falling back down. This could be due profit taking in this thinly traded security. What insight please on :
1. MOAT
2.PEG
3. Debt (manageable?)
4. Sufficient insider ownership ? (Considering its tiny size and negative price history)
5. Price to free cash flow;
PLEASE any information (of *substance* ) you can provide from your expert sources would be very helpful.


I don't expect you to know whether or not this is a candidate for a buy out by a larger company. Nevertheless , do you think CPSI is a better than average candidate for a consolidator in its industry?
