Q: Good morning and thanks for the role you fill in my investment decision making. I hold ECN.Pr.C (along with HPR and ZPR) and have for years. I have a decision to make regarding conversion. As I understand it I can do nothing and continue at a higher rate of return; convert to a floating rate and have it reset quarterly. Could you please confirm my choices along with your recommendation. Is this a buy and, if not, are there better alternatives? 3-5 year timeline.

Q: I hold the above utilities and have seen many recent questions on these. I believe our electrification demands will continue to rise very significantly over the next few decades.
I am retired and mainly looking for dividend growth and some, or good overall growth. Please rank as to which you think has the best outlook over next 5 years or more. I hold similar amounts of each? Would you add to one or two mainly or equally to all?

Q: Hello 5i
A question about investing on margin. I have heard a few people extolling the praises of investing with borrowed money. Some even prefer it to making extra money through selling options. It is easier, less time consuming, has the benefit of lower taxes because of favourable dividend and cap gains rates. But, one thing i can’t understand is that some people advocate investing on margin at the same time as they seem to hold a fairly large cash reserve. It seems to me to be more reasonable to use your cash reserves before borrowing. Am i missing something here. Or, does this practice not really make sense?

Q: I am fully invested in my RRIF account and in anticipation of the annual required payout in September, I have to choose what security(ies) to sell to fund the required withdrawal. The choices include current (energy) winners, preferreds with decent dividends, tech and industrial stocks bearing no dividends and most of them under water, or financials and utilities earning good dividends but down from previous highs. Overall, I’m over-weight in financials and energy and under in most all other categories. Also, pull the trigger now given market sentiment or wait until under the gun? Thank you.
