Q: Help me understand WEF please. Seems like they have mo debt, although Morningstar shows approx. $230M of “other liabilities” on their balance sheet. What could those be?
Morningstar states they earned about $80M TTM. True?
Why does the stock trade as if it could go out of business any time? Is the industry that fragile?
I note the stock was under 20 cents in 2008-9 crash. Can this happen again given their low debt?

Thanks
John

Q: Very recently some lumber companies have had major moves in their share prices, despite the slump in US housing construction. This is probably caused by a rise in lumber prices. True? And why are lumber prices up (apart from supply problems in BC)?

Q: As a big time fan of the site (just renewed my subscription) I have a convoluted question to ask.

Based on the advice that is promulgated from 5i, I have purchased the stocks from the balanced portfolio, amongst a few others from the growth folio. With regard to the stocks that I have listed, I took 5i’s advice and purchased piecemeal and as a result my average cost is lower than 5i initial purchase price. No complaint there. The question however that becomes inevitable, is, should there be a recommendation to sell, such as say, CLS, based on a $19 buy in recommendation at 5i as opposed to my 16 Ave cost, wilI the logic still hold? The same applies to the other stocks that I hold.

As a follow up, I note that the monthly portfolio data provides the current price and inception price. Can you explain why you do not adjust the cost price to reflect additional purchases after the initial purchase price, such as wef or wcp?

Thanks in advance, I recommend that anyone who subscribes to the service to renew! It’s a no brainer. And that’s after the October haircut!

Q: I sold both WEF and TSGI for tax losses. I can get back into them Oct.31. They've both been going straight down and I'm thinking they may go lower because of others doing tax loss selling. Do you still think they're worth getting back into and would the end of December be a better time to buy them?

Q: Hi 5i Team
I'm looking for an income stock to hold long term. Please rank these companies in order based on today's prices. Thanks for great service.

Q: of all the companies listed, I currently have the same percentage of holding that is in the 5i portfolio. Which of these stocks would you be comfortable buying today and making it a 4-5 % holding as I have some cash and would like to average down. I am a young investor with a long horizon as these stocks are all in my RRSP.

Thanks

Q: This is kind of a followup on your reply Sept 28. I think that these are cyclical stocks which are best bought when the sector is out of favor and depressed. Are they still buys this late in the cycle? Is the selloff of 1/3 just a retracement before another leg up, or is it over and time to clear out? To you what indicates when this lumber cycle is over?

Q: I am getting beat up by the above companies --all down 20 to 27%.
I am not comfortable with these kind of losses--usually bail out around 10%
Which proves to be a mistake sometimes.
What is your reccomendation SELLor HOLD and for how long if you are suggesting I hold.
Thanks
Peter
