Q: Good morning, I am presently down about 30% and wondering whether to just let it be, and wait for a comeback at some point, or sell and deploy funds elsewhere, and if so, what might you suggest as an alternative, keeping in mind that if I sell and invest elsewhere, I would need to make about 50% just to get back to breakeven on my original OXY investment. Thanks

Q: I own CNQ (largest position), OXY, and CHORD in my trading accounts. I am down quite a bit in CHORD since the Enerplus merger.
I don't really have that much exposure to natural gas stocks at the moment. Would it make sense to sell CHORD, claim a capital loss, and buy something like PEY, TOU, or BIR?

Q: Hi Peter,
I want to invest in a large cap energy stock that is well run, with solid balance sheet and generate increasing free cash flow. Valuation is lower than peers with lots of upside for capital gain. I’m debating between SU, CNQ and CVX. Which one of these would you pick and why? Or if there is another better candidate? Thanks.

Q: Hello,
I understand Warren Buffett recently purchased OXY and I was wondering if you might share a rationale that would favor this stock versus CNQ, TOU,IMO or other CAD producers trading at approx. equally low 52 week levels, with higher mkt cap, dividends and dividend growth.
Thank you and all the best to you and your families in 2025.

Q: With lng Canada online soon, things are looking good in the years ahead for Nat gas Price in general but there is also a recession risk if we dont get a soft landing. My question is would you be confortable holding a full oil&gas positions atm or keep a decent cash position like mr. Buffet .
I'm not sure how big of an impact a recession might have on the Sector given whats ahead with current lng development and the Sector being already depressed as it is, how much further down could it go if we do get the recession

Q: CVX has been dropping since 2022. Is there a problem here? XOM and SU (I hold all three) have been increasing. Should I drop CVX? I have at least a five year window, 78 year value investor who can wait for a turn around.
Q: Hi, with appreciation mostly for consideration, could you suggest 1 US and 1 Cdn energy stock over a 2-3 year timeline. thanks Jim N.

Q: Dear Peter et al:
Can you give me the names of 3 companies each that fulfill these criteria. I tried to "curate" the list by myself by going through 6 months worth of questions on Energy sector but really couldn't compile a decent selection as the questions exhibited significant variance.
Question # 1.
Mid cap oils (not gas)
Good to great free cash flow
FCF well directed to share buy backs, debt reduction and dividend enhancement.
Solid management
(I know this is subjective but I know that you know the players well!)
Showing good momentum and growth prospects.
You can include a small cap if you think it i soon going to be a mid cap.
Question # 2.
Same criteria but in Large cap oils.
Many thanks.

Q: Hi 5i!
I'm looking to reblance my portfolio and would like to take advantages of actual opportunities. I dont have any utilities and energy stocks. Also, I would like to increase my investments into large caps. Which stocks would you recommand? Growth / bakanced oriented.
For utilities, i noticed the drop on bip.un and bep.un but i already own bn. Would you buy of them or just add to bn... or buy something else for better diversification.
Many thanks.

Q: Hi Peter,
Of the bigger O/G Cos we own CNQ and IMO but not CVE or SU. IMO has been on a solid run lately and we're wondering why vs the group laggard SU (easy to see using ratio charts). For new capital would you stick with CNQ/IMO or add in CVE or SU. Do you agree that with higher rates the Oils are a good place to be ? Finally CNQ has committed to greater returns when their debt target is reached; are there similar committments from the others ? Thank you and pls deduct credits as appropriate,
