Q: My daughter's mortgage is up for renewal in December. The bank called and offered to renew early. She is currently paying 2.64% (5 yr fixed) and they offered 2.87%. She was asking my thoughts on what rates might do over the next 5 years and whether to take their offer?

My initial thoughts are a) USA-Cdn rates will probably go lower (and possibly negative) to stimulate the economy; b) the bank is calling now to try to lock in her mortgage at a higher rate as opposed to in December when rates will most likely be lower. My guess is to decline the offer.

What does your crystal ball show regarding interest rates over the next 5 year period?

ps We bought our 1st house at 20.25% and our lowest rate was 8%. So from that perspective, at sub 3% who cares?

Q: The only similarity in these two is that they both focus on cancer. Would 5i advise for or against a new position in either one? I understand that CALA is more speculative and in trials while SGEN is more established. More than happy to take on risk with either position if initiating. Your thoughts on why each are a buy or not?

Q: Hello Peter,
While SQ holds the promise when the retailers open, it does not really matter for PYPL. Which one would you suggest.
In your presentation at the MoneyShow yesterday you mentioned DXCOM in the healthcare sector with an increasing demand, company raising guidance and now being included in the index.
If I were to take a position in it, I will not be able to have positions in both SQ and PYPL. Which of these two would you suggest I let go.
Or would you suggest I hold them both and take a pass at DXCM instead.

Q: There is news that Brookfield Infrastructure LP reduced the dividend by 10%. I suspect this simply reflects the dividends declared on Brookfield Infrastructure Corp, not a real reduction for the enterprise as a whole. Is this correct?

Q: NTR: never seems to report EPS in-line with guidance, price taker for fertilizers & has high P.R.. Positive side: low debt., retail business with higher margins than commodities. Why was recent Q so bad? Would now be a good time to buy this stock & is dividend sustainable?

Q: I am looking to position myself in a way that will benefit from a rebound, particularly in the U.S. economy with ETFs denominated in Canadian dollars. I prefer dividend paying funds with a strong technology component but am open to any suggestions for consideration.

Q: Good morning 5i,
It is often mentionned that we should buy US stocks to offset the heavy concentration on financial and energy in the Canadian market. What sectors should one concentrate on in the US for this reason? And, in the current environment, is it possible to suggest one or two preferential stocks in each of these sectors?

Q: What do you think is the best way to play potential return to reasonable pricing for oil? USO - merged with HUC or a company like SU? No one can make money at these current prices even though they have gone up nicely recently.
