Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I am short US and international exposure. I currently have a small USD trading account with 5 US stocks representing 10% of my portfolio. I have another 10% in my Cdn account in XQQ and VMO for a total of 20% US exposure, mostly in non-registered accounts.

I am wondering about selling FTNT or URI to buy NVDA. Or I could exchange for more USD and just buy NVDA. I would like your thoughts on the future growth of FTNT or URI vs NVDA, or should I own all 3 and accept the $ exchange charge to get more US exposure?

Currently FTNT is up slightly in my account, and URI has a 50% capital gain.

Thanks for your advice.

Q: I'd appreciate your views on Xphyto Therapeutics, a company based in B.C. but with important partnerships in Germany. They appear to have a couple of very promising irons in the fire, including a portable PCR test for Covid-19.

Q: Hi 5i,

I own BPY.un and was planning on taking the BAM.A shares in the recent offer. Would it make sense to do it now?

BAM.A is trading around $CDN49.08. If you take .4 of that amount the value of BPY is around $19.63. Since BPY is trading around $21.75 it seems to suggest selling BPY now and buy BAM.A for the future (Trading costs and taxes not important). If the deal doesn’t go through, I have locked in the increase.

If BAM increases their offer by 75 cents, do you think the .4 of a share would change?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks
John

Q: HON has done reasonably well and now seems fully valued. CFRA has a sell rating on it and RBC-DI lowered its its opinion on HON’s share price appreciation in November. Would you sell HON, and if yes, why please? Please ignore tax impact. If you would hold, why please? If you would sell, would you replace with another US industrial and if yes, which one(s), given the generally toppy valuations today.

Q: Hi 5i: I am presently underweight financials ( TD - 6% ). Which of these would you add BNS, SLF or GSY? Would you add a combination of all? What is the market weight for financials and would now be a suitable time to add?

Thank you for my success!

Q: I have a CCP corp (10-year time line) with the following holdings (high to low mrt value + $60K cash): ENB, AQN, ATD, SU, BAM, GC, LSPD, XBC, REAL, GUD, BEPC, CAE, BNS, CSU, ENGH, SLF, PHO, XGD, WELL, GOOS, QST, AC, BEP.UN, KXS, DOC.VN, MITK, ATZ, SYZ, DOO. To reduce tax liabilities, I plan to slowly sell off any high yielding stocks (eg ENB) and only hold buy-and-forget stocks with very low or no dividend or buy corp class ETFs like HXT, HXS, HXQ. Can you please recommend what current stocks you see as long term "keepers" and suggest any new CAN or US stocks or ETFs. Many thanks for your help!!!!
