Q: Can I get your quick thoughts on CRWD and VEEV earnings? Do you still like both for long term growth?

Also thoughts on the VIX cracking above 30? With rates expected to rise in the near future, do you see a shift from more growth to value and more headwind for high growth stocks? I’m holding some high growth names such as SHOP, NVEI, LSPD, U, CRWD, APPS, WELL, VEEV and am a long term investor. Do you still have high confidence in all these names? Have done well but the recent pullback is tough to see. Thanks!

Q: Hi,

I was wondering if I could get your thoughts on a general trading/investing strategy.

Over the years, I have seen my valuations go up and down, up and down-yet I stick to the buy and hold strategy knowing I am not smart enough to time the market.

I am now thinking of adopting this strategy: selling approx 30% of a security position when I think it looks frothy. If the prices goes up, I still have 70% holding to benefit... BUT if it goes down, I would buy back that 30%.

I am not referring to day trading in and out-this would be a rebalance once/twice a year. What do you think in general of this strategy?

Thanks as always for your sage advice.

Q: Good Morning 5i,
With all the cash being generated by the energy companies I am wondering if you think the higher carbon producers would be looking to go private to allow them the time needed away from the public markets to transition to a lower carbon footprint. Would appreciate your thoughts in this regard, which companies do you think would consider going this route, would a company require shareholder approval and if so,
would there be a significant premium paid to shareholders to get the approval ? Thanks

Q: Hi thank you for all that you do.

I would appreciate your thoughts on a top ten list for growth plays in the US for an RRSP. (1 ETF) Time horizon is on my side as I’m a younger investor, and a dividend is not important.

Also, can you please provide a grade for each stock chosen? Ex A -E as shown in the Report section.

Would this list be any different in a TFSA? If so, why?

Thank you and please deduct points as necessary.

Nick

Q: I might be finding out I'm less comfortable with volatility than I thought I was <g>. Or am I losing sight of longer-term trends and overreacting to isolated daily extremes?
Two of my holdings are down quite a bit more today than the general market and my other (mostly relatively conservative? - communications/banks/utilities) holdings.
Anything going on sector-related (CT REIT down almost 5%) or company-specific (Atco / utilities down over 3%)? None of my other utility holdings are nearly this bad today.

Q: On 25 Nov my portfolio dropped 2.4%.
On 30 Nov my portfolio dropped 2.7%.
On 30 Nov, still stinging from the 2.4% drop, I was watching the 5i questions but nobody was asking about the stock rout. I assume most investors were reviewing their positions to see what their exposure was.
I didn't do anything at all. But I kept watching for questions and related guidance.
Can I have your advice on what to do on a day like yesterday, where Bloomberg said futures fell due to Omicron so this was a forecast I could have acted upon. Also, the Fed was said to be more hawkish due to inflation and was going to accelerate completion of its bond buying program. Probably a few other significant factors. In this type of market, did I do the right thing? Or should I have been trading my riskier positions yesterday? My intuition says I should have done more earlier, but when I saw no related questions coming, I assumed investors were busy trading to have less exposure.
Just a few thoughts from the wounded.
