Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I was wondering what your current assessment of STC would be? Since its major acquisition it shot hire and has steadily drifted down (still up YTD and year over year I realize). I am assuming it has to do with investors wanting to see a few quarters post-merger and possibly a lack of news? Am I missing something?

The price is now nearing where it was pre-merger. Could the current price be under-valued and a good position to add, or would you want to wait for a quarterly report or two to see how the merger shakes out?

Q: Hi Guys
I have owned Onex for quite a time but it is quite a bit of it's long time high of $100 and really languished this last year. I know the Westjet picture (small part of them really) and their time frame is long but even selling of some of their investments has not really done anything to Onex's stock price. I am wondering of swapping Onex out for Alaris given they both invest into private companies, or own them. The dividend would be nice too, although not really the main reason I would switch. Looking out 5 years and total return, which would you own?

Thanks so much

Q: I am a retiree with 14% financial sector exposure in banks (TD,BNS,RY) and insurance companies (MFC, SLF, BRK.B). I have been a long term holder (10+) of MFC and currently have a half position. Been happy with the dividend but very disappointed with share appreciation (still underwater). Would it make sense to sell MFC and purchase GSY for share appreciation and dividend growth?

Q: There was an interesting article in the National Post recently about the expansion plans for Voyager to get into Canada, Europe and stock trading. I understand that this company is heavily dependent on crypto sentiment, but after recently declines, would it be a good idea to take a position here or is this still seen as too expensive/risky?

Q: Hi 5i,
You have SNAP as a sell and PINS as a buy. Those are my thoughts as well. What always puzzles me is that every quarter, the analysts always look at SNAP’s earnings as a harbinger of what PINS may report. That makes no sense to me. They have very little in common except for on-line advertising. SNAP is a “disappearing picture” site for the younger demographic. PINS is a hobbies and pre-shopping site for all demographics, but more so for women. What weight if any do you put in this thesis that as SNAP goes, so goes PINS? SNAP reports today and PINS next Tuesday.
Thanks for the insight.
Dave
