I know 5i isn’t a fan of averaging down and while it is a strategy that has worked well for me in the past, initiating positions / timing hasn’t worked in my favour and I tend to buy the peaks. Hence the DCA strategy working for me I guess in lowering the average share price and eventually seeing some reasonable returns. Of course it tends to lead to overweight positions which I trim back. Examples are BA and vermillion.
Now here I am again in a situation. Holding ABX and BTO and down about 25%. Even so I am VERY comfortable with these 2 companies in my portfolio and I see them as complimentary to each other. I don’t see shifting way from them as I feel comfortable even being down 25%. However I am looking to DCA these 2 and bring my total gold exposure in my portfolio up from 7% to 10%. I have no other precious metals exposure. As I am aware 5i tends to be comfortable with 10% total sector position.
Could you weigh in on the narrative in general, address timing of purchases (as 5i tends to like a company and be “comfortable buying here” and seems indifferent of timing), DCA strategy, and advise of your opinion on these 2 companies, strengths, weaknesses, expectations.
Deduct as needed as my credit burn is quite slow.
Cheers and thanks for all the great advice! You have made a big difference. 🙂
Q: Hi 5i team. I’m trying to decide on investing in KL or ABX for a bit of gold exposure. Could you give me your thoughts and feedback on their current state and future outlook to compare? Would these be good choices or do you recommend/prefer others in this group? Why? And could you rank them in order of strength in their ability to produce profits moving forward.
Barrick Gold (ABX) has a big drop today. I saw the news Warren Buffett sold all in Q3. Do you think we should keep it or sold it? So far I have loss 15%. Please kindly advise for this stock.
First of all, thanks for your advise to help me understand more for the US & Canadian stock markets. I have a feeling that the US market will end the over 10 years bull market soon and bear market will come in. Due to the issue of GME, BB, NOK, and AMC showing many "NEW" investors involve the US and Canadian market (because of the BB), specially the Reddit social media investor forums is not healthy. I guess the Canadian market may also affected, due to the BB issue. Just in case the bear market will come, what the above stocks need to be sold to play safe. I am thinking to sell KXS, LSPD, and NVEI, those stock prices may not be survival during the big drop in coming. Do you have the same feeling that the bear market will come? Can you please rank the above stocks able to survival during the bear market and please suggest to take off any just in case the worst worst things really happen.
Q: Good morning,
ABX has a big copper portion to its earnings, is it a good time to buy with copper at a seven year high? Q4 should surprise on the upside. Or is it still better to buy KL?
Thanks,
George
Q: Good Afternoon 5i Team,
Can you please rank these gold companies from best to worse based on forecasted growth in the next 2-3 years and please briefly explain why.
Thanks!
Q: I am biased to see gold continue to move higher as we get closer to the US election. Particularly if Biden wins, since Trump will no doubt contest the results and pretty much do all he can to remain in the White House beyond Inauguration Day, resulting in heightened volatility.
At the same time, I could also see a scenario where the US$ rallies on the back of a FTQ bid amid this volatility.
So does one add to gold exposure with the view that the US$ rallies in the coming months? Or do you think any potential uptick in gold will be mitigated by a stronger US$?
And if you were to be relatively bullish on gold, would you buy, say, XGD, or would you add a company like FNV or ABX?
Q: Looking to add to my gold exposure (currently a small position in GLD). Can you let me know your preferred choice for a:
1. Gold ETF
2. Gold Miner/Producer
3. Gold explorer
4. Gold - high risk/high opportunity
5. Gold...? something alternative here, perhaps like GoldMoney
Q: According to an Aug. 14 news release Berkshire Hathaway has sold US Bank shares and also QSR . They have bought Barrick gold. Do you read much into this? Comments please. Thanks as always. Frank
Q: Apologies for the long list. Could I have your opinion on which I should sell? I will probably take the proceeds and add to FNV, AEM, and KL (are those reasonable choices?). Thanks very much.
Q: Good morning,
What is your thoughts on the Mar 31,2020 earnings reports from KL and ABX. Are they a buy at these prices and which one would you pick first.
Q: I have small positions in FNV and AEM. I am looking to add another gold company. Would you prefer ABX or NEM and why? Or would you prefer KL over those two and why?
Thanks, Tim.
Q: I currently a small amount of GDX and GLD. I would like to increase my gold holdings a bit. Is there a stock you recommend? I am wondering about ABX or GOLD, if you like those, and is GOLD better than the CAD ABX? Or do you prefer another gold stock?
Also, is this a good time to buy silver? If so, would you recommend a stock or an ETF, CAD or US? Thank you.
Q: Hi Peter & 5i Company,
I'm thinking of investing in one of the above gold equities, in your opinion which do you think has the most potential NGT vs ABX, or do you have 1 or 2 better suggestions.
Thanks in advance for your valued opinion.
