Q: Hello 5i,
GS has a CFO of 46 million and pays 74 million in dividends giving a payout ratio of 161%. When using P/E we have 1.00 / 1.21 giving a payout ratio of 83%. This seems to be turning the 5i suggestion of using div / cfo upside down. Do we do just take the formula most expedient or is the dividend in real danger?
Thank you
Stanley
Q: I am interested in this healthcare REIT as it has 6% dividend and the company has never reduced their dividend, even during the 2008 mess. I realize you do not follow U.S. txt much, but your opinion of this company would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
Jen
Q: This Question is about Mawer Investments. On BNN Bloomberg this morning there is a report from Bloomberg that Mawer is considering options including possible sale. Do you have any information on this development?
Q: Most small caps are down in this market and continue to fall.Of the above stocks, would you consider all as holds? The average retail investor like me doesn’t want to buy these stocks until prices stabilize, but must accept lower prices to sell them.Selling just contributes to the declines, especially on stocks with lower volume.
Can you rate these in order of preference?
Q: Are you aware of the underlying reason(s) Vermillion has dumped since its Oct. 25th earnings release? Some production up, some down, +280% boe US increase production helped by Powder River Basin acquisition in Wyoming but no big announcement. Your rating of VET and short term/long term outlooks would be appreciated.
Q: I have taken a loss on shares which I own of the Stars Group (TSG) in my US investment account. If I sell these shares, and then immediately buy the Stars Group (TSGI) shares for my Canadian investment account, am I still allowed to deduct my tax loss from my US account? In other words, are the US shares (TSG) and the Canadian shares (TSGI) considered unique for the purpose of tax deduction on a loss? Thank you.
Q: Regarding the Company debt at around 5.1Bln, at what rate of repayment would you consider to be on the right track? You mention their ability to generate FCF and the need to reduce debt and by extension interest expense, so what would you determine to be a positive level of debt repayment?
Q: Hello 5i team: ALA was originally at a20% weight in my tfsa.now ALA is down 50%.considering no tax loss advantage would you suggest I dump it ? I have read other answers. I hold all the energy I want in my open account. Any Best case replacement to regain my loss?or hold? Time frame not an issue. Thanks Larry
Q: I asked this question yesterday but it must have been lost in the ether since it wasn’t answered.
AltaGas issued an IPO in mid October at a price of $14.50 which was well before the stock price dropped fro $20 per share to about $16.50 after the 3rd quarter results were released. This makes no sense to me as I would believe the stock price should have immediately reacted to the announcement of a share offering.
In the 3rd quarter results, the company announced an increase in dividend to $0.1825 from $0.175 beginning on November 27. This again makes no sense to me since I was under the belief that the company needs to shore up its balance sheet. In addition, at current prices the dividend is already at about 13% of price.
Can you help explain both of these?
Thanks
Ed
