Q: Does it make sense in buying a small position in something like sqqq? Any other general short recommended? What is a suggested position size given for a short given that all my other positions are positive. Is my maximum loss limited to amount of money invested in sqqq..ie can it go in the negative? Thanks.

I’m following up on recent questions about taxation of the ETF VEQT (and similar) in an RRSP.

I am a bit confused about what withholding taxes might apply to VEQT. I have three questions please.

1) Would you be so kind at to explain what withholding taxes apply to VEQT in an RRSP?

2) If there are non-recoverable withholding taxes on VEQT in an RRSP, can they be quantified?

3) Finally, if there are withholding taxes applicable to VEQT in an RRSP, is there an ETF setup with the same diversification objective as VEQT that is more tax efficient in an RRSP?

(I tried following this information but I’m still unclear: https://www.vanguard.ca/content/dam/intl/americas/canada/en/documents/WithholdingTax_Guide-final.pdf).

Q: I am getting “twitchy” on Premium Brands ahead of them reporting on March 21st (a Friday, but reporting before markets open?). Can you give me an idea of how often they have beat expectations in the past and how the share price has reacted historically as well? I know it is asking for crystal ball gazing but can you make an educated/experienced guess about what you expect?

Q: Can you discuss the differences between dlr.i.ca, dlr.ca, hbil.ca , pas.ca , csav.ca in regards to safety of capital to park cash. There is a significant difference in return 4%-10%. Some are high interest savings accounts and others US dollar accounts. Are the US dollar accounts too risky?

Q: From a look at the CNQ price history graph, roughly between 2006 to covid, CNQ cycled between $15 to $25. For some 3 years post covid, it climbed from $15 to as high as $55. It is now about $42 which is still quite a lot above the 2006-2020 trend. I would be grateful if you can comment on what was holding back CNQ in the first period and what drove it during the second period, such as change in earnings, P/E, etc. I would like to understand if it is currently overpriced and if it dropped back to the $20-$30 range would the dividend be much at risk.
