Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I currently hold a 4% position in BTO. I don't generally like this sector but have been holding because its "generally recommended" to hold 5% gold/metals position. Right now I'm flat on it so there is no cap/gain or loss to influence a trade.
Do you consider BTO ok to hold at this level and/or should I hold lets say 2% positions in two or three alternatives and if so what would you recommend?
My time frame is 10 years plus.
Thanks
John

Q: Would you please provide your current perspective on Helius?
I’m particularly interested in your view on what potential there may be should PONS and related therapy be found to have good efficacy. In other words could they effectively monitize this technology free of direct competition? It seems the actual equipment would be inexpensive to produce.
Thanks, Hugh

Q: Mogo was IPO'd at around $10 per share. Since then the stock has wondered down to less than half that price--yet the company has diversified from a quick "payday" lender to one that now derives 50% of its revenue from subscription services that were not even part of the valuation at the time of initial offering (I believe). It is also the only Canadian Fintech that seems to be getting any traction in the marketplace. So my question is, why is the market not paying more attention to this company?

Q: Being retired my focus is on income and capital preservation in that order. Needing some USD to spend in the south, I have been recommended these income producing ETFs. Do you see any red flags with any of these?

Q: It seems to me that when 5i members seek guidance regarding possible investments in American healthcare companies, Pfizer seems to be a common recommendation by your team. If I'm correct that you consider it to be a good investment at this time, what exactly are the reasons you believe this to be the case. If I'm wrong, what other American Companies do you favour currently. I'm willing to accept some risk but I'm really looking for a company that can balance off some of the Canadian small caps that I have in my portfolio that I'm purchased with your guidance. i.e. Knight, Covalon and Reliq. Again, thank-you for your invaluable guidance.

Q: BRP has retracted somewhat and I think could fall further to $59 or $60 range. Considering that "BRP competes with some formidable brand names, such as Polaris and Honda in the snowmobile and ATV sectors, which have higher sales and deeper pockets for advertising and promotional spending." Also as a consumer cyclical and with the present uncertainties around NAFTA, do you think this is a possible volatile stock along the lines of TSGI, The Stars Group ( personally now down 36% and have learned some painful lessons)? Or does it's position as part of a conglomerate give it some protection?

Thanks Always. Stephen

Q: The following is an info from a commentary:
Beaudier Group and Bain Capital, which own a combined 58 million multiple-voting shares in BRP, will convert some of their holdings through a secondary offering of 8.7 million subordinate voting shares.Tuesday’s retreat suggests that investors could be nervous about key stakeholders selling out at the top of the market, and at a time when some observers are concerned about the aging business cycle and the impact of rising interest rates on consumer spending
If you look at the average daily trading volume, it’s like 220,000 shares. You’re putting 8.7 million shares into the market. There’s going to be a complete oversupply relative to demand on the shares that are out there,” Ms. Katz said.
After the secondary offering, Bain and Beaudier will still own nearly 50 million BRP multiple voting shares, combined. However, additional sales are likely, particularly by Bain.

In light of the above, can I please have your candid comments on this company going forward. Is Doo considered a "sell"
