Q: I remain with a small position in OBDC. Even though it is down a fair bit and has been for quite some time, There has been many comments about OWL but not OBDC. I bought it for the dividend and will be happy enough as long as it continues. Do you see the OBDC dividend as secure? Do you see any prospect that the whole enterprise might collapse? Thanks for your excellent service.

Q: Hi 5i,
Because 5i looks favourably on ZDC I've looked into it with an eye to investing some of my hard earned money. Based on my review I wonder if you could elaborate on the reasons for your favourable analysis. I went to its website expecting to see a highly sophisticated and somewhat difficult to duplicate mobile security technology and found instead that ZDC basically provides little camera towers that it'll wheel out to a jobsite to provide mobile surveillance. Which really doesn't seem like much to me, but does really look like something that almost anyone with a mind to could replicate without much trouble.
I understand that it's a nice little business, but is ZDCs really a serious candidate for investment?
(I know this sounds very skeptical, but I was stunned by what a one trick pony ZDC appears to be, and not a very sophisticated pony at that. But it's a Calgary company and I'm a Calgary boy I would like to invest in it - if there's really any reason to think that reasonably soon - 1 or 2 years - it might be worth $11 or $12 instead of its current $5 and change, to justify taking the risk.)

Q: For a young person (20 years old) who has little knowledge of or interest in investing, no interest in selecting individual investments, monitoring a portfolio or having to rebalance assets, what do you think of using a global 100% equity asset allocation ETF for long-term, ongoing contributions to TFSA’s, FHSA’s, RRSP’s, etc in order to make investing as easy and simple as possible and to encourage/reinforce a regular, long-term investing habit over several decades? If this sounds reasonable is there a global 100% equity asset allocation ETF that you would recommend or are they all pretty much interchangeable? Given the size, reputation and historical track record (safety) of firms like Blackrock, Fidelity, Vanguard, BMO, etc I assume there is little to choose from between the different ETF’s. Is there any other (better & simple) strategy you would suggest as an alternative, given the investor profile? Thanks.

Q: My wife has never dabbled in the markets and has often labelled it as too risky. She has tended to stay with GIC’s or higher interest saving accounts, yeilding perhaps 2-3.5% annually. However, after seeing returns on some of my equities and ETF’s she is reconsidering. While I know you cannot personalize what is best for her, can you please give your highest conviction for lower risk stocks/etf’s for an RRSP (about 130K) with a 3-5 year window. I have shown her RoR on Canoe ETF (about 8%) and HMAX (about 12%). Lower risk stocks like BN or GOOG are also being considered. Your input would be greatly appreciated. May I have your updated assessment of AAOI please? (Applied Optoelectronics)

It looks like it's been doing well the last 11 months alongside COHR and LITE then it doubled more dramatically in a month on its last earnings. Is this justified in their fundamentals, or is it possibly driven by profits searching for the next opportunity to make quick money?

(It also looks like AAOI's earnings haven't been as consistently good as LITE and COHR over the last while.)

Q: A recent barrons article said SK Hynix is planning to raise funds in the US and this could hurt Micron::

"A U.S. listing for SK Hynix might persuade some investors to diversify their memory-chip holdings. The Korean company trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of around 4.8 times according to FactSet, compared with 5.3 times for Micron."

Do you think that SK Hynix raising funds to increase capacity, as well as seeking a US listing, would have much impact on the share price of MU???

Q: Hi, two part question, deduct as many credits as needed.

Can you give your thoughts on this ETF FINN? If buying, which method (ETF, Mutual fund series B, mutual fund series F, etc.) makes the most sense for a self directed investor? which has lowest fees? Would be for long term hold, high risk is ok.

2nd part, looking for ideas on making one single investment, for a long term hold, additional money would be invested annually, it would be in a TFSA. High risk tolerance.
