Q: SGML has done well for me over the past year but seems to be losing its steam. Is it time to sell or still hold or trade for something else?

Q: I'm looking for some of your expert advice. I am down in OTEX which I own in a taxable account. It is currently yielding a decent dividend. I am thinking of selling it after the X dividend date for the capital loss, and perhaps buying GIB.A. The latter does not pay a dividend but the stock is performing better. Do you sanction both parts of this trade? Do you think the OTEX dividend will be safe in the future?

Q: There is lots of good information in the answers to questions on ECN and it appears 5I knows the company well ..... My question is on management goals ..... They grew the company and then sold off a third of it ..... They didn't keep that money to re-invest they returned it to shareholders ..... And recently they sold off another chunk for $200 million but they kept that money in the coffers ...... How does 5I view their strategy ? It looks to me like growth is not a goal with them ..... It looks like once a business reaches a certain level sell it ...... Does management have a stated strategy ? Are they planning on buying more businesses or concentrating on organic growth ? ....... I just can't get my head around what their aims are .......

Q: Is this a good entry spot/time to buy AQN? and your comments please.

Q: Hi there!

If one does not currently own BAM.A, what is best:

1. Buy it before December 9 when the new Corp will start so you get some shares of the new Corp too
2. Wait until after 9 December and just buy shares of the new Corp? Is it expected that the BAM.A and/or new shares will see strong performance after this date?

Last Q on agnc was February…. Lots has changed since then including the share price

I just read an article on SeekingAlpha that suggests now is a better ( but not totally risk free) time to buy it.

BTW 5i is still my favourite source of info. Significantly so!

So I would appreciate your input on AGNC before going after that 15.7% dividend….
especially if it leads to falling off a cliff.

Or moving onto to another high yield but safer investment

Q: Regarding the upcoming split of Brookfield Asset Management into two entities, I would like to know the nature of the distributions to be paid by the "new" asset management entity (which will retain the ticker "BAM"). Do we know yet whether the distributions will be fully "eligible" to the Canadian investor (similar to the distributions issued by BEPC and BIPC) or will these be more complex (from a taxation point-of-view) distributions (similar to those issued by BEP.UN and BIP.UN)? I am asking because-- for accounting simplicity-- I prefer to receive fully eligible dividends within my taxable investment accounts.

Q: Perhaps a dumb question, but who exactly is buying the GOC 5 year bond with ytm of 3.15%?
5 yr GICs are 5+%
Inflation 6+%
5 yr investment corporates are 5+%
Prime lending rate 5.95% and virtually certain to go higher
I realize that the market is betting that rates will fall in the coming years (we’ll see), but these numbers still don’t square up with the GOC 5 yr bond price imo. Is it a liquidity thing?

Q: Is there a particular reason that you do not own more energy stocks in the portfolio’s and are underweight the sector? Seems somewhat surprising in light of many companies returning capital to shareholders via significant dividend increases and share buybacks this year.
