Q: I was considering selling Enghouse based on the most recent earnings report and buying either Shopify or Open text.

Q: Hello,

We hold this U.S name in a registered account as with other U.S names and yet I notice on our statement that only this name gets deducted a "Non Resident Tax Withheld"

1) The Feb 26th dividend was reduced by 37% ! Did I get my calculation wrong? Could it really be 37%?
2) Why only on this name and not others?
3) If the yield has this handicap then shall I just sell and look for something else?

Q: Hi 5i,
Just some additional comments following on Scott’s question about the latest issue of EIF debentures. EIF is a serial issuer of convertible debentures. This issue will likely trade as EIF.DB.K when it hits the exchange and the timing of the issue suggests that its purpose is to fund the redemption of the EIF.DB.G debentures, for which EIF will soon be issuing a redemption notice. The series G debentures have had a 6% coupon and have been trading in the money (share price above $31.70) for a good chunk of the past couple of years. The new issue technically extends this portion of EIF’s debt financing out to the new issue’s maturity date, March 31, 2026. However, anyone considering holding EIF debentures should be aware that they routinely ‘hard call’ their debentures, for an early redemption at par, typically about two years before maturity. For example, the actual maturity date on the series G debentures isn’t until March 31, 2021. To obtain the existing premium, current holders of the series G debentures will need to convert them into common shares at $31.70 or else sell them into the market before the redemption date. Cheers!

Q: Hi team,
A question on Boeing. A tragic place crash on the weekend. It was the 2nd one in six months involving the Boeing 737 Max 8, a newer version of the workhorse 737 and for which Boeing has a huge backlog. A number of airlines are grounding those planes today. BA is bouncing around a lot. I have not followed it that closely in the past, so not sure how things typically play out. Before today, a lot of analysts had high price targets. I am not minimizing the tragic loss of lives, but is this a good opportunity to initiate a position, or could a lot of cancelled orders follow?

Q: In a post last week you noted that OTEX insiders own 2.2% of the company. This does not appear to be a significant amount. Thus, I was a little concerned to see that OTEX made the top 5 list for net insider selling on the Canadian Insider website, with over 200,000 shares sold. Do you think there is reason to be concerned?

Q: January 8 Parkland completedthe purchase of 75% of the shares of Sol Investments Limited, the largest independent marketer and supplier of petroleum products in the Caribbean. The CEO calls this: "...an opportunity to expand to a new geography and market through a strong business platform like Sol is an exciting time for Parkland. The assets and infrastructure we have acquired are proven, well known, and will enable Parkland to extend its supply advantage into a new region..." . Do you feel this is true, or is it reckless expanding into this region which, since I can remember, is a graveyard of investment capital.

Q: A two part question relating to reading financial statements.
1. I'm looking for annual Free Cash Flow. For some companies (US) this is stated explicitly as a line item on the Cash Flow statement. For others it's less obvious. BAM, for example provides Net Cash - Beginning Balance, Net Cash - End Balance but also Cash from Financing Activities. Is one of these meant to be Free cash flow? If so, which one?

2. My second question is more about financial statements differing depending on the source (RBC/SA/amigo - [https://amigobulls.com/stocks/BAM/income-statement/annual?t=ibc]), again BAM will be my example using equity differences from 2018.

I've found some differences in results of equity estimates between RBC and amigo and am not sure why, as I presume BAM files once and everyone uses the same data.

As an example using 2018 data:
RBC amigo
EQUITY 29,815 97,150

Why would the be so different, and which is correct?

Q: Hi Guys,

Of the picks in this folio, which ones do you consider the most likely to break out, all things being equal, and which do you like to be a candidate to be bought out?

I'm looking to deploy a little cash in a growthy pick, and would appreciate your opinion based on today's valuation and prospects. Or would you recommend holding until better signals become apparent?
