Q: I bought shares in the above in an DIY investment account forgetting I had
holdings in both elsewhere.Is it reasonable to sell both at a loss to free up some cash for investment elsewhere to achieve more balance in my portfolio and to use losses as a tax loss(both are in a nonregistered account)?

With the news out last night that Kirkland gold is to acquire all shares of SAS,after the boards of both companies have agreed to the merger,would it be advantageous for myself a SAS shareholder to agree and tender my shares or stay for the long term? The value of SAS shares are calculated to be worth.47 and this morning are trading at .43!!! Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated as I am just not sure what to do in this case!!!

Q: I have to preface this by saying I`m not a buy and hold investor, but it makes me wonder when people complain about a stock`s poor performance. If a stock has dropped 50% why are you still holding. At what point does it become obvious this is not a good investment at this time. That`s not to say it won`t be a good investment in the future, but it now has to double for you to break even.
Sorry for the rant, and I would like to thank 5I for helping me to retire early and continue to live a reasonable lifestyle.

Q: Thank you for your earlier answer to my question related to these types of funds! But it leaves me with one follow up! In a tax sheltered environment (RRSP/TSFA) is an ETF focused on preferred shares a good choice for fixed income. From my readings, preferred shares ETF seem to be better suited to an un sheltered portfolio because the 'interest' is treated as a dividend for taxation purposes.

Would I be better off in a tax sheltered environment to purchase bond traded funds such as PSB or XSB? It this is a better option which would you choose? With the prospects of rising interest rates in the USA, would I be wise to mix in some US Corporate bonds as well, such as USB? If this is a better option would a 60/40 split (USB/PSB) be a good split?

Q: I've been holding WIN in my TFSA (for the dividend income). Now I'm wondering whether it's worth transferring it out into my unregistered account and hanging onto it for an eventual recovery, or to just dump it. What would you suggest? (Either way, it's not staying in my TFSA!) Thanks

Q: Is now a good time to establish positions in a preferred share ETF? Is there a significant difference among the various funds available (ie: CPD, PPS, ZDV or the National Bank Preferred Equity Income Fund - sorry could not find the symbol)? With interest rates likely to increase, how stable are each of these funds and if it is a good investment (1 to 3 years) which would you recommend? Please indicate how you would rank these funds for performance.

I am an income investor, early 70's. I have a 15% holding in a diversified REIT portfolio. My holding of D.UN is 2.5% of my total portfolio. At what looks like a bargain price today would you advise an increase of 1 to 2% to D.un?

I have owned this company for sometime and the results have been consistent over a long period of time. It has dropped recently - it would appear that is in sympathy with the Autoparts industry as a whole. Does this make sense and would you continue to hold if you owned. Thanks
