Q: Peter; The federal government just announced that in September single sports betting will be allowed. Would this be beneficial to SCR in a major way? Rod
Q: Hi 5i
Work had quite a move up yesterday, about 37%, on the news of a possible buyout by Salesforce.
In your opinion :
1. What would you consider possible as an offer price? Is share price likely to go higher than currently. Close to 52 week high?
2. Would you continue to hold?
Thx
Jim

Brookfield Renewable Corporation Class A Exchangeable Subordinate Voting Shares (BEPC $46.73)
Q: I own shares of Brookfield Renewable Corporation (BEPC) and it just continues to defy gravity and move straight up. This has me thinking that an equity raise might be coming anytime now. What do you think the chances are that they do a share issue before the end of the year? Have they already filed a shelf prospectus?
You mentioned in a previous response that if they were to issue shares it would likely be the corporate shares and not the partnership, implying that this might reduce the current premium on the corporate shares. Can you explain why? Wouldn’t the partnership shares suffer the same earnings dilution if they issue corporate shares?
I own the corporate shares in my non-registered account. Would it make sense to sell them from that account and repurchase the partnership shares in my RRSP? I would incur a taxable gain but I already have carried over loses that I can use to offset. In addition I think that there is a possibility that the Government might soon spring a capital gains tax increase upon us (just one more reason to crystalize the gain now).
I couple of question so please deduct credits as you see fit.

Boston Scientific Corporation (BSX $105.41)
-
Johnson & Johnson (JNJ $167.33)
Q: Would you start a position at these levels?
I know they recalled the Lotus Aortic valve but it doesn’t represent a significant earnings miss at all.
I know you like MDT over BSX and JNJ &SYK are also great company’s that you may want to think about in this equation if we wanted to buy 2 of them in the Medical device space.
Thank you,
Nick

KraneShares CSI China Internet ETF (KWEB $34.50)
Q: What are the Chinese companies that Trump has prohibited Americans from owning. Do you think Biden will reverse this decision? Will this affect Chinese etf's such as Kweb and other popular stocks? Thanks for your insight.
Q: What is your opinion on Mag Silver's recent earnings? Would you consider it a buy at this time? How much of silvers annual production is consumed for industrial usage and how much is purchase by investors. Is there a trend one way or the other? Thanks so much for your help.
Q: With a takeover offer on the table, and some large share holders against the deal at the current price, do you think its likely that a) the pot gets sweetened, or b) the deal falls apart......or c) they except, but that's a boring option :-)
Thanks as always
Dave

Q: Please provide your views on the outlook for this company and whether or not it is worth holding. Thanks.
Q: I need to get access to a data base such as Compustat in order to back test an investment thesis. I have been able to get data (EBITDA, Revenue from operations, Good Will, Total Assets) for 2018 and 2019. I would like to access data back to 1998 for all NYSE and NASDAQ companies.
Results for 2019 are 57.37% and 2020 YTD22.46 %.
Happy to discuss system with you if you are interested.
Any suggestions on accessing a database?

Q: Hello 5i,
These questions are in response to your answer to Paul's question a bit earlier today. I, too, received shares of Viatris representing a fraction of a percent of our total equity portfolio. Under normal circumstances you tend to recommend not holding less than a 1% position. Also, I was unaware that VTRS would consider initiating a dividend. As an Income-focussed investor, that is interesting to me.
Rightly or wrongly, I tend to think of these shares as being "free" in a sense, so I am open to a variety of actions.
Now to the questions:
1. Given the foregoing, would 1% be reasonable to you? Your comment referenced "to a point", but that is not a metric that helps make an informed decision. Given the heavy debt load, what would you anticipate that "point" being for the average investor?
2. Given the heavy debt load, is it reasonable to expect VTRS to proceed with initiating a dividend this early? Might they not want to reduce debt first?
3. Would you recommend just holding on to the existing shares for a while to see how things play out before adding or selling?
Many thanks as always for your patience and stellar service - it is very much appreciated!!
Cheers,
Mike
