Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: In response to a question from John this morning part of the reply was "we are buying/owning it at this level (for small cap high risk investors) and seeing how growth proceeds. Risk is high, but it is expected to be profitable in 2024."

Who is "we"? Are staff members now able to buy Canadian securities or does this information come from another source?

Q: Hi 5i Team,

Would you recommend any of these as a buy at this current time as a basket of smaller cap companies? If so, what order would you rank these?

Thanks,
Jon

Q: I have been following KUT for some time and am wondering if now is the time to pull the trigger and buy some for my small cap portfolio. Yesterday's results appear very good to me - EBIDTA up 55% and Revenues up 42% YOY (52% constant currency).....how do these results compare to expectations and any reason you can see for the weakness (albeit on very small volume) after the Q announcement?

Could you also comment on TCL.A's continued weakness and if it is worth holding in my income portfolio. The dividend is nice and I don't mind holding if its safe and there is a reasonable expectation that the stock will be higher in 3-5 years.

Thanks for the support and all the great insights over the years

Scott

Q: You sometimes mention that a particular stock would be OK for a basket of small-cap stocks. I am intrigued. I think you mean like a mini ETF where you track the whole as one investment. I think I have done something like that with a very tiny portion of my overall investments. I have a separate little portfolio with these 4 stocks, KUT, QST, MTLO, PNG. This group has been doing well so far this year with the exception of KUT. But I am interested to learn what stocks you might suggest for such a “basket”. Also how many stocks would you put in it?

Q: I know this company is a bit small for you to get too interested in, so my question is really not company specific but rather based on using KUT as an example. They have had a good run over the last year. Price is near highs. Yesterday they announce a BDF at .95. This is about 10% below recent trading. Today they announce an increase in the BDF at the same price. Naturally, price dropped around 7% today to just above the BFD pricing. However, while noting the dilutive effect of the financing (adding around 20% to the float!) and the probable cap on the stock price for a while as all is digested, should not one wonder that if seasoned investors are prepared to pay a certain price for a fairly large piece of a company which is trading near all time highs, perhaps this should be seen as a positive for the company and we, as small investors, should give consideration to buying near the BFD price? I appreciate that big investors get it wrong as often as we do, however, is this scenerio not generally a positive for the company?
Long question, please deduct as many as you deem appropriate.
Thanks as always
