Q: Hi, what is your current view on Trevali? Is this a good entry point? It seems so to me based on decent zinc pricing and a forward PE of only around 4(!)? Do you see strength or weakness in Zinc demand in the next year? If the commodity demand is strong, Trevali seems poised to go much higher this year, but no one seems interested right now?
Q: Could you please comment on the latest results. They look pretty reasonable to me which presumably is why they saw fit to raise their dividend. But at least the initial reaction from the market is negative.
Q: Do you have any additional insights into the reasoning for such a large miss? With the large backlog I would expect earnings to be more steady, so was a bit surprised. Did a couple of orders just not get filled before quarter end? Was the parts business below expectations? Is there anything beyond a one quarter concern? Thanks
Q: A follow up on the previous questions on NFI and OTEX.
In the case of New Flyer's eps miss, wasnt 11 of the 14 cent miss due to one time items?
I'm certain OTEX will have a miserable day. However, is the fact they still had eps growth over their comparable Q last year a mitigating factor, in your view?
Q: I thought that Bellatrix was making the right moves to return to financial health - and that may be true, But this year the first quarter shows a loss of $12.9M compared with a profit of $13M in 2017. While this was partly due to lower commodity prices, the company says "The decrease in net profit period over period is primarily due to a decrease in the unrealized gain on commodity contracts (. . . )". If I have an unrealized gain on stocks I own it is because I haven't sold them yet. But what is an unrealized gain on commodity contracts ? Is this just a paper loss or a real loss that investors should worry about ?
Q: DHX popped about 5% this morning. I cannot find any news other than the earnings announcement. Is there any news you are aware of. Are they starting to get their business back on track???
Q: Please share your thoughts on GH's Q1 report. At a glance, it's looking like management found ways to reduce costs the past two years and now that revenues are showing growth the EBITDA is ballooning out faster than expected.
Q: Do you think the present time is a good time to step into energy stocks, and if so what would be your preference between VDE or XEG? With thanks, Bill
Q: I am retired living off dividend income. I am tempted to add 1/4 position to an already full position of BCE as the price is now looking very attractive at 53.2/share yielding 5.7%.
53 has been the support base since April 2016 and 60 has been the resistance.
Has anything fundamentally changed with BCE to explain the drop in price? Or is it simply because interest rates are rising so the market is rotating from higher yielding stocks?
Would you add at the current price, or wait until BCE forms a base as it is still in a downtrend looking at the 8, 20, 50 day moving averages?
Q: I understand that many former technology companies such as Google are being re-classified as Communications Sector. These companies are widely held in many ETF's and Index funds. This ultimately changes the ETF and Index components and may generate unplanned capital gains or losses.
Is this correct and in your opinion does it happen often?
thanks
Q: Mr. Hodson, at the time of your last report on GUD, on March 31, 2017, GUD was at $10.39, and at A-. How long before it gets over its last price of $10.39 ? I appreciate GUD may go up and down in the next while, but when do you think it will start its ascension for good and become a real champion stock ? Might its ascension then become even more impressive than that of CSU ?
