Q: My wife only wants to invest in environmentally friendly companies ( eg renewable energy sector etc). I have bought for her QST. I would like to put her in solid larger companies that pay a dividend. Could you recommend your top 5 picks?

Q: What is your favorite health care pick for a growth / aggressive growth investor with at least a $1 billion market cap? Perhaps you can list 2 and rank them in order of preference. I'm indifferent as to whether the company is Canadian or U.S., just looking for your favorite growth picks.

Q: Hi team,
I saw the comment earlier from Rick on TD not offering Norbert’s Gambit option for RRIFs. I am not at the RRIF stage yet but moving closer. I have used Norbert’s Gambit many times for my RRSP, TFSA and Cash accounts at TD. Without this option, I think the FX conversion charge, if I recall past conversations with TD, is a minimum 1.5% for larger amounts, ranging up to 2% or more for smaller amounts. If Norbert’s Gambit is not available at TD once I get to the RRIF stage, I will look at moving my account(s) as well. In a RRIF, I will likely be using Norbert’s Gambit more to move funds back to Canada from the U.S. for the minimum annual withdrawals required by law. Like Rick, I am interested if other members have the Norbert’s Gambit option for their RRIFs.

Q: Based on the information I'm getting from various sources, it seems to me that it's time rearrange my portfolio to reflect the possibility of a recession in the near future. Based on that premise, I've decided to buy the 'best of the best' dividend and dividend increasing companies in Canada. I would appreciate it if you would suggest the absolute best quality companies Canada has to offer an investor in the so called "more conservative" sectors. I'm thinking sectors like pipelines, utilities, telcos but I'm open to other sectors/companies you think will hold up well in a recession. I'm looking for at least 6-8 companies that you believe would fit these criteria. Thanks as always for your guidance.

Q: Is portfolio balancing different than averaging down? I will be doing my semi-annual portfolio over the next couple of weeks and with the decline of names like MG, MX and TSGI to name a few I suspect I will be a bit underweight in consumer discretionary and materials. I see portfolio balancing as shoring up the laggards and trimming the overweight (winners) but that means buying stocks that are not showing momentum and may even be in continuing decline. So, are these two ideas incompatible and if so, what is the "proper" way to rebalance?

Q: BTO has been dropping fast (20 cents) after there was a rumour on May 23 that it was pursuing an adquisition in Zimbabwe . Clive Johnson sent an email on the same day indicating the contrary. Is the drop related to the rumour ?, and is this an opportunity to buy some more ?, or there are some bad news/developments that can explain the recent drop . Thanks

Market chatter May 23 , B2Gold (BTG) is considering the purchase of the idled Shamva gold mine in Zimbabwe, if it may be exempted from a law that requires producers to sell all the metal to the country's central bank, Bloomberg reported on Thursday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

If B2Gold proceeds with the purchase from owner Metallon, it will invest $150 million to $200 million in developing the mine, one of the sources said. The company is willing to pay about a third of the book value Shamva, which was last assessed at $167 million seven years ago, the source added.

Q: These two companies will be sold in my RRSP (Valener) and Cash (Crius) accounts. I have held these stocks as income producers. What would be good replacement stock(s) for these when they are sold. For Crius, if you could, give me 4 or 5 stocks that could replace it for income. My portfolio is well diversified and I am looking for a 4-6% dividend paying stock. Q: On my previous question on EQNR you stated that they had Debt at less than 1x cash flow, just curious at how you arrived at that value, as when i look at Morningstars info they show ttm free cash flow at 6.8 Billion and short and long term Debt around 25.7 Billion. I find this Debt/cash flow Ratio as one of the more useful metrics as it can give you an idea how fast companies can pay off Acquisitions, however few web sites report it, as well as yours when i search under companies

Q: Clarification on my question --"whether it is best to convert money to the US and then buy stock or just buy stock and then convert to the USA stock". You say "that if one is buying a US stock there will be conversion at some point. Either C$ gets converted into US$ for the purchase, or US$ gets converted into C$ when the investor wants to withdraw Canadian cash from the account eventually."

There will be no conversion fees if I do below steps.
Example: I buy CSU on TSX Then move to USA Stock
When I decide to sell I move CSU from the USA to CDN and then sell.

Is this strategy will end up saving money or the best way to convert money from CDN to the USA or vice versa.
