Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I am retired, living on dividend income and have the following REITS in my portfolio in equal amounts and making up 10% of my portfolio. I am invested for the average yield of 6.6% the REITS generate.
Do any of the REITS have a dividend payout ratio near or over 100% or negative growth that I should be worried about?
Can you rate the REITS from best to worst?
I noted that you just sold the REIT ETF in the income portfolio and purchased CSH.UN. Based on your response, I may sell a couple REITS and replace with CRH.UN and NWH.UN for company growth that 5i is forecasting in the healthcare REIT space.

Q: I hold substantially less than 5% of each of the above securities in my diversified portfolio. The sector is not over-represented in my portfolio. I would appreciate your opinion as to which, if any, should be sold because of duplication; and/or to reduce the # of stocks held; and/or because of other specific concerns; and which, if any, should be added to. I do not require the cash from any disposition, am not averse to risk, and, subject to your comments, would reinvest it in this or any other sector which you recommend.Thank you in advance for your usual reasoned response.

Q: I have held HR.UN for a few years and have not really like this stock but kept it as you often said it was a good REIT stock.I would be generating a small capital loss if I sell HR.UN but wonder if buying CSH.UN is a better option in the long term. I own no other REIT stock.

Thanks

Q: Hello team,
Can you suggest 3 or 4 Canadian REITS that pay a dividend over 6% that you would be happy with for an income investor? And can you rank them? Thank you for all that you do!

Q: I have investments in the listed Investment Trusts for income.
With the problems in the Retail Sector (Sears, The Bay, etc), and the growth of on-line shopping, are the values and incomes of any these Trusts exposed?
REI.un and CUF.un have been on a steady decline.
Thank you in advance for your comments.

Q: Can you rank the stocks best to worst in your opinion. These are the stock s that are in my real estate sector which is 3% of my current portfolio. Would you add, swap or remove any of them? My portfolio holdings/thoughts are very similar to your BE Portfolio as I am a middle aged investor.

Q: Hi there,
I have both of these in my investment account and would like to consolidate into one or the other based on the other stocks I currently own. Which of these would you prefer to own going forward and why. I like the dividends but am more interested in total return.

Q: I would like your thoughts on whether it is a good time to buy REITs given the pull back in some recently. I am looking at AD, HOT and HR so could I get you opinion on these or others that would be a good buy now.
Thanks.

Q: I manage my husband's and my TFSA's as if they are one account so we do not duplicate the stocks in the 2 accounts and can have a reasonable size of position. We have a similar weighting of ALA, REI.UN, SIA, WSP, ZEB, BEP.UN, CGX, and HR.UN and PKI, and a double weighting of CPD and CDZ. We currently have about $110K in the two accounts and $20K of that is in cash. Can you suggest what we might add to or change in the above list, considering that we prefer income paying securities with some growth prospects and want the TFSA's to act independently of our other investments as a relatively conservative growth vehicle.

Q: Please comment on the earnings results of both Dream Global and H & R Reit. Do you think the listing of Dream Global on the Frankfort Exchange will be positive. Would you be adding to these at this time? Thank you for you great service.
