Q: Hi. I have an RESP for three grandkids, ages 5, 7 and 9. Current holdings that I'm underwater on are: AEM, BCE, BN, NTR and TVE along with these: ARX, BAM, CSU, ENB, RY, TD and TOU. I'd appreciate your overall comments on account re sector allocation and any obvious sells. As well, I'd like suggestions on how to deploy $7000 cash. Thx.

Q: I own a considerable amount of HYLD, but question the use of 25% leverage. I am considering switching to SMAX, but am wondering if they are so similar, that it is not worth switching.
Could you offer me your opinion on which one you would prefer for an income orientated senior investor.

Q: I have this security In my TFSA, sitting at a 78% loss. It now represents 0.25 % of my portfolio.

I am very comfortable financially and do not foresee having to withdraw from my TFSA in the next 20 years.

Other than it being en eyesore, do you feel there is an opportunity cost that comes with continuing to hold it?

How would you proceed, keep it for fun and see if it runs, or sell it?

Q: With steel prices having moved up a fair bit over the last few months, I have been surprised at the continued weakness in shares of STLC. Now down to $40. The company paid a $3.00 special dividend in each of the past 2 years, and also pays a regular 42 cent quarterly dividend, so a trailing 12 month yield of 11.5%. Solid balance sheet. What do you think of it at this price, and is there an earnings forecast for 2024?

Q: I hold LMN and CSU and need to trim back LMN. It's been great but now at 6% I think its prudent to reduce to 3 or 4%. Looking for suggestions of what to do with the proceeds. Thanks John

Q: SMCI was up 14.4% today, February 5th. I find it hard to believe the people buying the stock today were buying because the company is going to have good earnings in the future. Instead I see momentum players doing panic buying. FOMO on a big scale. I don’t think this is going to end well once sanity returns to the momentum players who basically have no emotional stake in the company. I’m thinking we saw a top today. A little weakness tomorrow and it will be panic to get out first. Do you agree? I’ve owned the stock for some time and while I’m pleased at “winning the lottery” the stock’s action is beginning to concern me.

im seeing a very high P/E on CSU right now. can you compare the current P/E and the forward P/E with historical averages. If possible can you include the ranges for these ( ie highest and lowest historically). can you comment on your thoughts about the current and future P/E being reasonable or not, and why? finally, are you comfortable punching shares at this price?

Q: Telecommunication stocks in the US and Europe, such as AT&T and Vodafone, have consistently experienced a long-term downward trend. While investors appreciate the generous dividends, they are wary of the potential capital losses. The question arises: Will Canadian telecommunication stocks, like BCE and Telus, eventually mirror the trajectory of their US and European counterparts? Thank you.

Q: Somewhat confused as to dividend. You state the dividend as approx. 13 % whereas TD Waterhouse says approx. 8 %.
What am I missing?

Q: What is your current view on TPZ over the next 12-15 months?
Research that I have seen seems to indicate positive growth expectations over the next year but I am not convinced that the markets are viewing the company in the same way. I own the shares, being down slightly, and I am debating whether to continue holding the shares or to sell? Your thoughts please. Thanks.

A couple of questions, if I might. Please deduct accordingly.
First, regarding CDRs in general - in looking at the listed companies I note that the price of the CDR compared to the US share price for each company varies considerably. E.g.: For NVDA the CDR price is approximately 9.5% of the US price, for AAPL the CDR is approx. 14.9% of the US price, GOOG CDR is approx 17% of the US version, MSFT CDR comes in at about 7.40% of the US price, and the COST CDR is only about 4.7% of the US price.
Is this variance something that a purchaser of CDRs needs to bear in mind in any way or for any reason, or is it meaningless with regard to returns, and how does the significant variation between companies come about in the first place?
And secondly, could you rank the listed companies for total return over a one year period, accompanied by whatever commentary you choose to offer as to why you've ranked them as you have?

Q: I am contemplating a switch from Rockwell Automation into Eaton. It seems like I would be moving into a better asset. But am I making the classic mistake of selling a name that has nothing but bad news baked into its stock for a stock that has perfection baked into its price? Does Rockwell getting 'less bad' have more upside than Eaton 'keeping on' and I am making a bad switch? Thoughts?

Q: Once read "stock prices take the stairs up, elevator on the way down", and have seen more than a few cases of this over many years watching the market closely. I'm about to leave on a trip where I will at times be off grid and am considering some stop losses for some stocks that have seemed to take the elevator up, not sure what mode they will use to come down, perhaps nuclear, ha. Looking for some advice in how to use stop losses for super high flyers that I have doubles, triples and better. How would you protect your "loved ones" if you were going off grid?
