Q: Hi there, I'm building a portfolio based on the 4% withdrawal rule. I read a study where based on country specific stock market data, the 4% withdrawal rule only worked in Canada, US and maybe 3 other countries. Based on this study and using history as a guide - if one were to build a portfolio with 50/50 Canada and US exposure, would it be best to use VCE and VFV or VCE and XSP? Also, if VCE is not the most appropriate Canadian ETF, what would be the most suitable? I've seen XIU, XIC and VCN often mentioned, but it appears like VCE has a slight outperformance?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Q: Hello Peter,
Thanks for your explanation to a question asked earlier on BAM; sorry, are you able to expand a bit. If one owned 100 shares of BAM, what would happen as you mentioned 1 for 4 basis. Does this mean BAM will still trade as BAM, and another company will trade as XXX, but as a shareholder 400 shares would be in the account or 25 shares? Also, what would happen to BIP, and BEP as there seems to be an overlap.. Much appreciated. Finally, if one owns BAM today, should one just stay put and hold the shares... thanks very much

Q: Hello 5i,
In the September market and report updates there is no mention of information regarding additions or removal of holdings in any of the portfolios. Have I missed something? Usually there s a mention of no movement to a given portfolio.
Thank you
Stanley

Q: What is your point on view on DLR and on Data centers ,would you sell ,keep,or switch DLR now (at lowest in 52 weeks) for another REIT or a data center ETF ? thanks
Q: My question is on BOARDWALKTECH SOFTWARE. I've read your last comments but I’m just trying to understand what industry this company caters to. Where do they derive their revenues from and is the CAGR (Compounded Annual Growth Rate) for this particular industry good looking forward? If you were going to add this to a microcap portfolio would you do it here as it is getting close to 52 week highs or wait for a pull back, or just stay away from it period and sell, sell, sell if you already have a position?

Sold this one for a tax loss about 35 days ago. What do you think about recent earnings and forecast?
Would you buy back in or something better such as ATA or BOYD or CAE.
It's classified as basic material on many websites but industrial on yours.

Q: Hi Peter and staff,
On Sep. 13 I asked about possible new purchases, and one of the recommendations was UPST. So I'm looking at the chart and it looks like it's on a free fall for the last year, although it has stabilized recently.
I went back and checked on past Q&A and your view was not positive for UPST. You recommended AFRM over UPST and you mentioned that the fundamentals and potential have deteriorated.
I also checked and it appears that right now there are 2 Buys, 6 Holds and 1 underperform.
Just wondering what new information you have that would make this a buy.
As always thank you for your advice.
Joe

Q: Can you comment on the spinoff news at BAM? Some details were disclosed and it sounds bullish but would appreciate your perspective.
Q: I'm looking at increasing my exposure to quality small cap companies. This company seems to be run by strong capital allocators, and I'm wondering if you can foresee strong compounding potential in its future?
Q: Nobody asked about your analysis on earnings?

Q: I'm thinking about selling some of my 8.4% WSP weighting and buying more DOO to increase my weighting to 3%. Would you endorse this move? 2 or 3 weeks ago DOO was down due to a cyber attack and today up 10% due to great numbers...frankly I'm a little dizzy with all this bouncing around. None-the-less DOO seems to be an excellent company. WSP is also an excellent company but the ride seems less bouncy. By-the-way I bought WSP due to 5i"s recommendation. Up 360% to date - so thanks!

Q: I am so disappointed with this name. What is/can Topicus do to enhance their profile?Do you still like the return prospects? Why?Should I continue to hold or take a tax loss?
Q: Let's assume I am ready to bet that the stock market will provide me 7-10% CAGR over the next 20 years. I could buy an index that tracks the market. But is there an ETF that could provide me with 2x or 3x leverage on this bet (with the help of derivatives or any other tool/tactics that I have no chance of understanding), hence providing me with 20%-30% CAGR ?
That would be too easy right ?

Q: Let's assume that I am convinced that canadian banks will remain an oligopoly over the next 20 years and provide me with 10% CAGR.
Should I buy a basket of canadian bank stocks, or should I place my bet on HCAL or CBNK to obtain leverage ?
Thank you !

Q: Does GDX rebalance their holdings of mining shares? If so, how often and when? Thanks
Q: I noticed an interesting thing the other day, with the CPI announcement in the US causing a sudden severe tech market downdraft. Tech stocks such as Amazon went down about 6% and have stayed there. Smaller Canadian tech stocks didn't however. I hold both Converge and Topicus and they are both trading higher than they were two or three days ago. Does this decoupling mean that smaller Canadian tech stocks may have bottomed? Ie. all of the weak shareholders have been flushed out and mostly long term holders now hold the shares?
