Q: Hello: I currently own ZQQ yield of .52% and ZUE yield of 1.5%. I find that HBF has a much higher yield of 7.1% and will basically mimic the first two etfs, would you agree? Is HBF a reliable etf, if yes should I invest new money into it or use it as a replacement for either one or both of the other two. I’m retired and I am after some growth but mainly income.

Q: Greetings,

I have some cash that I am planning on adding to my financial sector weightings - given the 20% fewer mortgages currently being written by the big banks, I suspect this will have some impact to their overall results. Given this and the insurers being cheaper right now, where would you add - the insurers or the banks.

Q: Over the last little while I purchased the above securities because of a rising rate environment. All have performed as expected except ECN.pr.A. Is there any particular reason for this. Would it be wise to average down . I’m still thinking that with rising interest rates their will be more demand for their services. What about the margin will this increase, decrease or stay the same ?

Q: I wonder if I could get your take on what Jim Cramer says is behind the current mess in the market. According to him most of the problem is hedge fund managers having to sell stocks to make margin calls on heavy, leveraged short bets they made on VIX volatility funds. It makes as much sense as any other reason I've seen. Q: If I may be permitted a comment on Dave's question when he asks "...how to create an investment portfolio that gains from where the capital is going instead of holding investments seeing capital retreating," I have had spectacular results (in my mind) by emulating the Balanced Equity 5i portfolio, gaining over 16% in 2017 (my weighting was different and I hold several international ETFs for diversification outside Canada). Trying to go where the capital is going comes awfully close to timing the market, a losing strategy for most investors. As a contrarian by nature, where most of the market is going is a pretty good indication of turnaround soon.

I re-balanced my entire portfolio in mid-January to very closely align the weightings with the 5i Balanced Equity portfolio.

Q: Hi Team,

I sold my holdings of AVO, (Thanks for that one!). I own the entire balanced portfolio, and would like to deploy the cash in a company that has been beat down a bit in the last little while that has good upside potential. I was thinking DOL but would like a few suggestions.

Q: Good Evening
I own a Cominar bond maturing in 2022. I realize that DBRS has rated this company below investment grade (BBHigh).
Recently an analyst has commented that if you buy a high yield bond from Cominar " is like going to a casino and putting your money on the roulette wheel. It’s a terrible idea and makes no sense. The company has had to cut its distribution in the last 12 months."
Do you share the concerns of the above analyst? In your view, will Cominar have difficulties in meeting their obligations to the bondholders?
Would you advise holding or selling this bond?
