Q: I'm looking for another lo-volatity dividend payer with some growth to hold for the long term. I own BEPC (3%) and its done very well. Should I add to it or add FTS, BIP, or do you have a better choice for me?

Q: greetings - I'm thinking of harvesting some NTR gains. Other than the financial sector ( I have RBC, SLF, BAM, GSY, BNS) and energy ( have CNQ, SU, ENB and TU) which Canadian companies do you regard with the strongest conviction these days for long term holds. Dividends are always nice but not a stopper. Thanks for a steady hand on the tiller. Al

Q: Hello,

From your last report update of March 9th the 5i Balanced portfolio is down YTD -7.18%. Mawer's Balanced fund Series A is also down YTD -7.15% as of March 30th (according to Morningstar data). I find the comparison between the 5i balanced portfolio and the Mawer Balanced fund interesting because the Mawer fund has a Canadian bond weighting of ~30%. Given the current market back drop shouldn't balanced funds with a sizable bond weighting provide better down side protection? Or is this mainly due to rising interest rates affecting bond performance?

I am trying to find a way to hold US stocks without being subject to US Estate Tax or the need for T1135 tracking.

Are CDRs on US stocks subject to US Estate Tax?

Are CDRs on US stocks subject to T1135 reporting?

Are there other vehicles, besides selected Canadian- company-managed ETFs, that enable ownership of US stocks without exposure to US Estate Tax or T1135 exposure?

Which Canadian companies managing US stock EFTs are not subject to these issues?

Are the Canadian branches of US companies that manage US stock EFTs deemed by CRA to be US or Canadian?

Any additional comments or suggestions that you may have on these topics would be greatly appreciated.

Q: Hi 5i Team - I hold shares in Enthusiast Gaming. Besides continuing to hold I would like to add another stock in the same space. I am looking to add Brag and Penn. Do you have a preference over these two. Also do have any other recommendations in the gaming and/or e-sports space, especially in the small and mid caps. Thanks.

Q: This fund which was a great fund years ago will shortly be converted into a lower MER fund which I appreciate. However, this got me to look closer at recent performance which I don't think has been very good. I am considering switching it to something else. Can you recommend an ETF or another fund that would be a good replacement. We don't have a lot of foreign exposure other than this fund and a Mawer fund (MAW102) but we are otherwise very diversified in individual stocks.
