Q: I would like to invest 50 thousand in a etf or two investing outside of Canada. Please give a couple o f recommendations and a specific country or investment idea you would consider attractive at this time as well. I already own US banks through ZBK as well as Alibaba. Do you consider XID attractive at this time? THANKYOU I have been well pleased with 5i over the years and consider your advice a good investment.

Q: To Randall re:RESP and CESG grant,
I just wanted to flag you that the government’s grant portion is a maximum of $500 per year to a life time maximum of $7200. If you top up your Grandson’s RESP 30k at once you will still only receive $500 in government grant and have used up the contribution allowance of 50k.

Q: I was disturbed by a recent question about US estate tax and the fact that a Canadian Citizen residing in Canada is still subject to US Estate taxes if they hold US properties or US stocks or ETF's upon their death. I hold many US stocks. I also hold Canadian stocks on the US side of my brokerage account (ie AQN, BAM.A, MX, OTC etc_ in order to collect the dividends in US dollars. Are these Canadian equities being held in US dollars considered to be US investments when calculating US Estate Tax? I also hold a considerable amount of US dollars in the these accounts, is US currency considered to be US property as well?

Q: What are the similarities and differences between the TD Canadian Index fund (e series) and XIU? The TD fund is based on the Solactive Canada Broad Market Index. XIU is based on the S&P/TSX 60 Index. After reviewing materials I'm not sure of the similarities and differences. Please explain.

Q: Re Comments from Richard on Oct27 about proceeds of WPT buyout. From what I read the special dividend is meant for US/foreign holders not canadians. I expected capital gain only. Could you clarify? Thanks.

Q: This is a small cap Canadian oil company that has production in Thailand. This week they announced a $0.40/sh. return of capital along with the intention to sell their remaining production holdings. That would likely be returned to shareholders as well. The Thai wells are very profitable right now due to high oil prices in a great geographic location and they are reporting historically high production levels.
My question: What are your thoughts of the recent announcements/how accretive do you think they are?
