Q: First of all - you are very helpful and I appreciate it!
Re TFSA U.S. account - apparently if the security in this account has a dividend, it would be subject to 15% withholding tax if you sell. In Canada, the withholding tax is applied against your income tax when you do it up, but how does this withholding tax work in the U.S. if you are not doing U.S. income tax?
Thank you!
Margaret
Q: 23 year-old slowly building out his TFSA. GSY (23%), KXS (19%) and LSPD (29%) now dominate weightings with PHO, PBH, REAL, BAM.A and CNR being between 5%-7% each. Going to trim GSY/KXS/LSPD back to 10% each and use the funds to purchase four new positions. Given this is a long-term hold could you suggest your favourite 5 or 6 (Canadian or US) growth stocks or those with potential to be the next SHOP in order of preference and why? Many thanks for your always astute insights.
Q: Good day. I have been holding BPY.UN for 2 years but see it going nowhere aside from having a nice dividend. I now stand -15% and a 3.2% position in my RSP. I am overweight Real Estate and need to increase weight in Technology/Consumer Non-Cycl. and Cycl. Can you suggest a few of your portfolio favourites that I could start positions with or should I hold on for awhile to see where BPY.UN goes. Please note that I use dividends as reinvestment/diversification tool and therefore although not necessary for growth they are quite useful.
Thank you
Q: I just asked a question about having a U.S. account vs just buying U.S. securities in your Canadian account. I still don't quite understand.
I have some U.S. securities in my canadian cash account. Are you saying that that I will be paying some kind of "fee" on this even though they are just sitting there?
thank you for clarifying
Margaret
Q: I would appreciate your outlook for CHKP. I thought that the last qtr was decent with revenue, EPS, and earnings up somewhat. Nevertheless the share price seems stagnant since July. The P/E is quite low for this industry which suggests that the market is not expecting much growth. I was expecting that the "working from home" and "virtual learning" phenomena would be tailwinds. Since the company doesn't pay a dividend, if the price isn't going to grow, I should move on.
I look forward to your thoughts.
Thanks
Ian
Q: Hello 5i Could you provide your thoughts and assessment of this company for a longer term investment and would it be better to put it in a TFSA if acquired.
Q: If you plan to buy U.S. securities, I was told you should set up a U.S. trading account. Is there an advantage to this? If you transfer Canadian dollars into this account and then eventually sell the stock, i am aware that you have to figure out the "cost" in canadian dollars on the day you purchased and also "cost" in canadian dollars the day you sell it for tax purposes.
thank you
Margaret
Q: Good morning, I am looking to invest in Amazon, but if I was to buy 5 shares, what would be more than US$15,000 and represent 15% holding. What would an alternative way to invest as I assume this is too large of a position, even for Amazon.
Q: Good Afternoon
Can you help explain the large drop on REAL since August? Granted there was a small miss on latest earnings, expectations were high. However from your previous answers and comments from management there are many good things happening. I’m just trying to align those comments with what is happening to the SP?
Thank you
Q: Hi 5i
Blackberry had a large move up this morning...do you have any insight as to why.
Current share holder finally in a break even position.....depending on the reason for the move up would you continue to hold or sell and move on.

Q: Could you please suggest a few names - preferably Canadian if possible - of companies developing hydrogen as an energy source along with any insight/opinions you might have.
Many thanks, Dave
Q: Picked this one and did well, now wondering if should keep or sell?
Chart looks good, lumber price up, consumer cyclical stocks rolling, good latest reporting, and debt reduction.
Dividend not a consideration to me.
What would you do?
I just noticed the book value of my BEP.un dropped a lot from August, is it because the free BEPC given to share holders´É. Also, the description of the free shares says non-taxable. Will appreciate your explanation.
