Q: Dividend growth investor here. Was wondering about the quality ACO.X as an investment. Any balance sheet concerns? The rather large portion they own of CU seems to be dictating the performance of their stock price - more less flat-ish over the last few years. So in that regard why would, say, FTS be outperforming CU over the last 5 years by approx. 25%?

Q: Hello 5i Team

I currently hold E-L Financial (ELF), Economic Investment Trust (EVT) and United Corporations (UNC).

Ultimately the total value of these three holdings is 2.84 % of my equity holdings with ELF (0.77 %), EVT (0.66 %) and UNC (1.41 %).

E-L Financial and the controlling family shareholder holds approximately 25% ownership of EVT (through direct ownership) and approximately 53 % (through indirect subsidiaries) with a resulting public float of 21 %.

E-L Financial and the controlling family shareholder holds approximately 55 % of UNC and approximately 23 % (through indirect subsidiaries) with a resulting public float of 21 %.
Through Normal Course Issuer Bids and Substantial Issuer Bids, E-L Financial is very slowly increasing its control (approximately 1 % per year).

I understand all three securities have extremely low trading volumes (less than 500 shares per day and some days no trades). I am looking at a long-term holding period (> 5 years).

Questions

1 – General comments on ELF, EVT and UNC.

2 – Given the very slow creeping takeover (i.e. 20 years to complete takeover), does it make sense to retain holdings of EVT and UNC and sell my holdings of ELF? The ultimate goal is to reduce the number of holdings in my portfolio.

Thank you

Q: Will partially liquidate Dis (at a loss) balance hold for recovery. Am debating deploying to one or two of the above. For a 3 to 5 yr hold (registered acct), with capital appreciation/total return in mind, which is favoured?

Q: I very recently picked up a small starting position in SMCI at $235. Am waiting before adding anything further. I don't normally base decisions on technicals but would like your thoughts on what price level you think would be reasonable. It did gap up in May around $160. In your experience, would you expect the price to come down to fill this ? Any other comments would be appreciated.

Q: Hi team, I am a retired, income with a bit of growth investor. I have 22 holdings in my portfolio. My general rule of thumb is that a single holding should not be over 5% and a sector no more than 20%. When it comes to ETF's my % are a bit higher. My question is, with the above ETF's in mind could you please tell me what the maximum % you would feel comfortable with holding in a portfolio. eg- I have ZWA at 10%, ZWE 9%, ZWU 9%, with cash at 15.5%. Thanks for your expertise, Bill
