I thought I would express my gratitude for all the assorted insightful articles.
I really enjoyed the recent article written by Barkha and look forward to more IPO articles.
Q: Dear 5i,
I have a question about MAGT and IPO's in general.
I am have no experience participating in an IPO so I had a few questions.
Can the IPO price vary after one commits to purchasing a set number of shares?
Is the broker commission embedded within the stock price?
When do the shares typically start trading on the normal market?
In the case of MAGT it looks like the IPO shares started trading on the open market
within a day. For small investors do you recommend waiting and purchasing on the open market? Thanks
Q: Any reason why the renewable stocks are so weak in 2021?
For example, BEP.UN dropped almost 14% since 1/01/2021, and most other renewable stocks are similarly depressed YTD. I know this sector was up substantially in 2020. What changed? Market sentiments, or due to some more tangible reasons? Thanks.
Q: Does the government bailout change your view of transat? Is there any reasonable potential that Trz can materially benefit from the return to travel . Or is this a case of not much upside and money better invested elsewhere?
Thanks guys.
Q: What do you think of this twenty stock dividend portfolio for a taxable account? I am focusing on high quality and it yields about 3.8% . Any changes you would make?
Q: As the Canadian dollar strengthens I am curious about the advantages of journaling some of my Canadian stocks to the US side of my account. As an example, there is an obvious benefit to convert CAD cash to USD cash when CAD is at .85 USD vs. when CAD is at .70 USD BUT Is there any benefit to journal say 1000 shares of BNS from Canada to US when the dollar is at .85 vs. when the dollar is at .70?
Q: Can you comment on FAF's recent results? How do you see the relationship between them and ATD (20% ownership) developing over time and with US deregulation on the horizon?
Thanks for your help.
Q: What would be your top 2 picks to buy now and hold for ever in both the US and CAN portfolio thinking about management, disruptors, growth, etc with.
Andrew.
Q: "President Biden's plan is expected to call for a 39.6% top tax rate on long-term capital gains, up from the current 20%. The tax would apply to returns on assets held more than a year and to taxpayers with more than $1 million in income." If this proposal becomes reality, do you expect an impact on stock markets?
Q: TOI.V moving up quite a bit. What are the main reasons? Would this be a good entry price (around 50 ) for BEP.UN or is there bad news around ? Thanks for your help. Larry
Q: MAGT: 5i produced an interesting article on the company. It appears you feel it could well be a good one. You indicated it is doing an IPO but gave no date for it. The article was published yesterday, April 27 and MAGT went public today, April 28. Why didn't the article include the IPO date? I'm sure many would have followed it this morning if we had known it was trading. Also, MAGT isn't recognized within the 5i system as a valid stock symbol. In future it would be useful to include IPO date, if known, in any article about a new company and also have the 5i system recognize the symbol from the get-go. Now that MAGT is trading, has it reacted as you thought it would?
Q: I raised a little cash in my U.S. account after enjoying a 12%+ gain since the start of the year. Looking to take advantage of some opportunities over the summer months. Can you list 5 U.S. stocks to watch that I should consider if they pull back over the summer? I currently own BMY, ABBV, AMZN, NVDA and COST.
