Q: Question about preferred shares in general.
I will use a Pembina preferred as an example. PPL.PR.I issued March 31, 2015.
Rate reset date is December 1, 2020.
Issued at 4.75% - therefore initially issued at 3.91% + .85%.
Currently the 5 year government bond yield rate is 2.36% (I'm getting this from iTrade and to reset Pembina will use Bloomberg GCAN5YR. I'm assuming they are the same or close).
Therefore the reset rate will be 6.27% (3.91% + 2.36%).
I am assuming that Pembina will either reset the rate or redeem the preferred at $25.00 on December 1, 2020.
Two questions:
1. Is there anything else they can do other than reset or redeem?
2. If they can only do a reset or redeem then why has the stock decreased in value from above $25.00 to $24.25 this past week? I would have thought with the pending increased reset rate or redemption the preferred would be holding its value.
Am I totally missing something here?
Thanks so much.

Q: I had the pleasure of listening in on the conference call last week. One theme that I agree with is to sell your losers. I understand you mean on fundamentals, not price alone. I am holding some of your favorites, and they have all taken a bath with the market. I wonder if it is time to let any go, or are they all still a hold

Q: Hi 5i
Are you still comfortable with SGY ? Any reason to consider not holding onto an existing position - currently held at a loss but a patient investor with medium to long term timeframe in mind.
Thanks

Q: It seems like an appropriate time to ask about a scary stock. What are your thoughts on the outlook for Novo Resources? Thanks & happy Halloween.
Q: Good Morning
Would you be a buyer of BlackBerry at these levels?
I will appreciate your insight on this stock.

Q: I currently have a full position in SHOP, with about a 20% loss. Would there be more or better potential to switch out of SHOP and invest in PHO or take a half position in both? I have a 6 to 8 year time horizon.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Q: Please provide your opinions on Isodiols debt levels, their payments, and their ability to do so. Thank you.
Q: Does any market research companies in the USA provide similar information about the American market like 5i does for Canada?
Q: This is a market question. Yesterday, markets were up nicely until news of more US tariffs on China came out, then they plunged. But they plunged deeper in Canada than in the US. Would you have a try at explaining why that would be given our valuations are cheaper and US tariffs on China would have no impact on us? It seems every time US markets drop due to China tariff concerns ours go down more. Are we in a bear market in Canada? Morgan Stanley has said the US is now in a bear market and all rallies should be sold because it's going to get worse. Would you advise that here?
Q: Hi team,
Just how big is this cloud anyway? Since IBM announced its purchase of Red Hat, it seems every tech stock and their brother claim to be a cloud company. I got several Seeking Alpha emails identifying about 20 or more companies that are now M&A candidates in the cloud. There are too many to list here, but two companies that I follow stood out to me; one that was there and one that was conspicuous by its absence.
I have been following DOCU for awhile. It was on the list. It seems it has a unique electronic signature software/platform that resides on the cloud and that would be an attractive functionality for bigger companies in the future for document authorization. The one that was absent from the list was BOX. I had been in that stock earlier the year but lost interest after erratic earnings. It looks like the risk/reward may be attractive here, but I just don’t see any real competitive advantage that it holds over many other cloud candidates. Earlier this year, you suggested that MSFT could potentially be interested. What sets BOX apart from many other cloud companies and is the outlook for DOCU and/or BOX enhanced or not by the IBM deal?
Thanks again for your thoughts,
dave

Could you provide me a couple names that have been beaten up so much that it’s time to back up the truck for a 3 to 5 year hold.?
Thanks for your expertise

Q: What do you think is the reason for the disappointing results from ALA? I have been holding for a long time and down 40% now!
Thanks for your insights.
Thanks for your insights.
Q: Thx. for the quick response.....my son owns it...has a 50% gain....would you recommend to hold, add or sell based on your response "The drop has likely now accounted for the weaker result". You've liked it until recently and even suggested as a good company.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Q: please comment on the result of AOS is it a good buy at this level
Q: ..bought VET because it was supposedly more protected from WCS pricing than either CNQ or SU...but it has fallen more and is now way down. is there anything left in this country to put money into?

Q: Please subtract two question credits if you feel that is correct. First, are REIT"S good to hold in a down market, i.e. bear or recession? I am thinking that ones pertaining to rentals would be? I hold TCN,CAR and IIP in my TFSA. TCN is not doing great and I am worried the future U.S. housing market if the U.S. economy tanks, will be affected by it. thinking of swapping it for PRV ( I like the dividend) or adding more to IIP and CAR instead. Looking for good income.... your thoughts please,
many thanks,
Jen
