Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: We own both of these companies in a riff account for the dividend and hopefully some growth given the demographics. Any reason why they have dropped so much recently ( seems to be more than the market) and would you buy more at these prices?
Thank you. Maggie

Q: PPL and others in the utility pipeline space have taken a major haircut in the last few days for no reason at all. Is the threat of a Fed rate increase really to blame? In real financial terms that is really immaterial. However, market movers have been using all threats (real or otherwise) to further their games of stirring stock movements. What is your take on this? Thanks.

Q: Hi Peter and Team - Your response to today's question on the Exchangeable shares has really helped to clarify the situation. I too have opted for the exchangeable shares and would like to convert back to the regular ones in order to sell but TD Waterhouse was very doubtful that I could do this. Before I pursue this further do you know when the deal for exchangeable shares will close. Also do you think there is a chance the shares in Intertain or the new company will go to zero. Are the fundamentals still reasonably sound and particularly is the debt load manageable. Thanks.

Q: These three stocks are held in registered portfolios representing 6% of total investments and are down significantly. Is it "time to cut bait " and if so, can you suggest two or three promising investments we can have a look at.

Q: As suggested, I tendered my shares for the exchangeable shares through my discount broker.

I have been wanting to sell the shares before they go to zero and have not been able to do so.

It is too late to cancel my conversion request and when I called Kingsdale they said the shares won't be at the brokers for another 7 to 10 days and I'm therefore in limbo.

I don't even think I can short sell my shares and cover with the exchangeable as they are different shares. Putting yourselves in this situation, any thoughts on how to liquidate the shares, or am I stuck?

Thanks

Sheldon
