Q: With the problems in Canada getting our oil to markets and large producers selling off assets do you think that an investor would be okay in holding companies like Parex and Vermilion where for the most part they are able to get product to world markets? I currently only hold these 2 companies (along with ENB and IPL) for energy exposure. Would you consider this appropriate or would you add 1 other company to this mix? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Q: I have held Cardinal Energy for some time and with the dividend, have been about break even with the investment. I like dividends, but I value overall return more than I do yield alone and am wondering if I would be better served by selling CJ and purchasing Parex? In addition to CJ, I also own ENB, PKI, BTE, VET and TOG in this space. If not Parex, is there another energy play you would prefer in this scenerio? Your comments and rationale are most welcome. Thanks for the great service.

Q: Could you please give me your opinion as to which of these you would prefer for a long term hold.
Thanks, as always.

Q: I have a 3.77 % position in YGR. Thinking of adding a further 2% in the sector. I’m mainly a dividend investor with some growth. I’ve been looking at VET because of its dividend and exposure outside Canada. Con looks a bit expensive. Canadian oil trades at a large discount so Canadian oil stocks do not benefit as much from rising oil prices. What do you think. Maybe there are better opportunities that you can offer. Your best suggestion would be greatly appreciated. This would be in a cash account.
Q: Morning folks:
Bought this name at 24. Should I be concerned with the decline. Are u guys still comfortable with this one. Was looking at kelt as parex is my only oil exposure . Wait this one out ?

Q: Hi 5i,
Is there any news, etc. to justify the down moves on these two former market favourites? Has the market lost confidence in the management? Has the Canadian O&G sector gone out of favour as managers move to global co's? I would appreciate any comments/insight on these question & stocks. Thank you.

Q: So Druckenmiller and Soros are putting more bets on oil. I'm not an oil expert, but I do understand the operational leverage that can be created. I also understand there are specific Canadian specific variables to profitability with the pipelines and oil sands etc. If I were to bet with these two, could you give me a list of Canadian oil Companies to bet on? Could you also comment on any possible reason they see oil as attractive?
Much Thanks,
Wayne

Q: What is happening to PXT? Buy more, or sell? This is one of my only 2 oil holdings. My energy exposure is very limited. Risk is not an issue for me.
Q: can you comment on there quarter?
Q: Hi there,
Just a follow up to me previous question: You suggested PXT as a good oil play that would be similar to that of KL in the gold space. It looks like it is down about 8% at the open this morning. Do you know why this is? And is this a good entry point?
Thank you!

Q: Greetings 5i,
At current price, would you add to PXT at this time or would you wait until after the quarterly report and maybe some comments from management on the conference call? Would be putting into my TFSA account. Don't have any E&Ps currently.

Q: Parex has initiated a strategic review for sale of one asset - perhaps the entire business. Yesterday, market original reaction was positive. Today down sharply. You indicated in an earlier comment this was a positive development. I cannot find any new news on this story to warrant the sell off.
What are your thoughts? This company is well managed, no debt and huge cash balance, long life assets, and still reasonably valued. This is not like Spartan or Raging River where consolidation needs to take place. New pro business government in Columbia without pipeline issues. What gives here? If you held this name would sell, hold or buy more?

Q: Hi, Guys
From the price reaction, I'm guessing investors don't like Parex looking at divesting their Colombian Assets. Any Thoughts?

Q: Could you please provide more information with regards to the company announcement yesterday, “Potential Strategic Repositioning”. Is this a positive for shareholders? The market seemed to like it as the stock was up 2.57% on above average volume.
Thanks for your great service.
Dave.

Q: Notwithstanding current weighting and sector allocation, what is your top pick in energy today?
-
Cenovus Energy Inc. (CVE)
-
Vermilion Energy Inc. (VET)
-
Parex Resources Inc. (PXT)
-
Whitecap Resources Inc. (WCP)
-
Birchcliff Energy Ltd. (BIR)
-
Surge Energy Inc. (SGY)
Q: Can you give me a couple of ideas for oil E&P exposure
Q: I have no energy exposure in my portfolio since 2014. I sold all of WCP, RRX, VET, SGY late 2014 and never went back. I am thinking about gradually stepping back into energy but not in a hurry or big way. I am a growth investor and have no issue with risks. Should I buy CNQ, SU etc big names or stay with smaller ones like WCP, VET etc. or just use an ETF like XEG? Thanks.
Q: Hello 5i,
My only oil and gas exposure is with Yangarra Resouces and I'm looking at Parex as an addition. Please comment on the pros and cons of this move. I have a well balanced portfolio and an above average risk tolerance.
Thank you
Dave
