Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: After reasonably positive financial results the shares made a new low on large volume. The only negative I could find was the low cash position triggering higher interest rate on the debentures. Would you suggest to continue holding or accept that the market is saying that there is something wrong with the company.
Thanks for the great service. Peter

Q: Hi 5I
Took your advice and stayed out of the Marijuana business. What a bummer man. It feels like the train left the station and I forgot to get on. (isn't forgetfulness one of the side effects)
Having said that, I get your theory that there is too many unknowns, however, the near sweep of relaxing laws in the US election has me feeling the inevitable will occur in Canada. If you were to bet (I acknowledge its a gamble) on one producer, who would that be?

Q: 5i,
From all of us who purchased Nvdia on your enthusiasm THANK YOU!
Now from a portfolio management perspective, with the stock up 114% year to date, and perhaps popping in the 20% range today, should investors take some off the table (as 5i did with some of its winners in the summer) perhaps to purchase more in the future. IT stocks are otherwise getting trimmed in market and the NASDAQ facing pressure. It looks as though the growth prospects for NVDA are good, but seem tied to TESLA. Stocks like Tesla may face pressure with a Trump presidency.

When last asked about weighting, 5i suggested 15% for Info. Tech (Sept 26), with the usual "weighting is a personal/situational decision". For the average 5i (model portfolio style investor) what would you suggest today for an info. tech weighting based on this evolving US investing environment?

thanks for the great service, kathleen

Q: Do you have any comments on results released today? Why was the drop so significant? Volume 6x normal...

I'd still like to hold (maybe even add to) as they seem to have some interesting technology. Is this an opportunity to add for the long term? Current position is 1.2%, and I'm still in the green despite the drop.

Q: I play the market such that if stocks are not doing well for a couple of months I get rid of them. I can always buy them back later. Here are three Canadian stocks that fit that criteria. ADW.A, KXS and CZO. Do you see them continuing the same pattern for the next month or so? U.S wise I know you do not deal with that market, but OCLR dropped about 10% a month ago. I got in 3 or 4 days ago, and it dropped another 8%. I have read through Seeking Alpha that the conductor space that they are in could be the reason. What is your opinion on this. Dennis

Q: Being a relatively young investor in my late 20s I think I should be allocating more of my portfolio to high quality growth stocks. (I likely have too much allocated to blue chip dividend cos) I have owned ATD.B, CSU and SJ for some time and was wondering if you could suggest some other similar consistent growth cos to look into?
