Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I am asking for some coaching advice. I am down on multiple blue chip dividend paying stocks. They are amongst your favourites, ENB, TD, BNS, SLF and CM.

keeping all in equal weights is not important to me, rather my personality is buying the best valued equity of the moment with comfort that I am getting it at a good price. I am holding for long term.

My problem is I don't have a sense of which is better valued right now with everything up in the air.

My question is deciding which one to buy more of, as they are on "sale" right now. I am comfortable that their dividends are amongst the "safest" available.

How would you approach this?

Q: Hi 5i,
Thoughts on purchasing BAM.A and SLF at current prices, or wait for lower prices? Do you think their dividends are safe?
Thoughts on the Canadian oil sector with respect to SU and CNQ? While dividends cuts have happened and likely to continue, do you see long term value in purchasing at these levels and do you prefer one over the other? Worth the risk for a 5 year hold?
Thanks very much
Terry

Q: Hello Team,

Currently own ECN, down 15% on this one. I have been eyeing BMO for awhile now. Comparing BMO on a one year chart it lags and dropped the most from the other big banks, down roughly 35%. However, at roughly 68$ isn't it an attractive entry point?

Can you please explain why BMO lags? And second, would switching ECN to BMO be a good move or simply stick with ecn?

Thank you and have a good day!

Q: I own ING and has been disappointing. Was considering moving it "in kind" from my margin account to my RRSP account. was wondering if this would allow me to take a tax loss on it, or would I have to sell it outright and repurchase it in the RRSP. You have any recommendations on it?

Q: I currently own both these 2 stocks for a 4% weight and have done well so far. I was wondering if I should sell 1 % of each and then buy MFST for a 2% weight. What do you think the comfortable weight of these 2 stocks should be? What % would you hold in a portfolio if 5i had a US portfolio? Do you feel that there is a better US stock than MFST for purchase at this time for a retired person?
Thanks
