Q: For 2018 TFSA contribution money, which of these three companies would you buy this week or would you pass on all them right now?

Q: My 20year old son has at least 2years of school left and has enough summer income and RESP to cover those years. He has been slowly building a portfolio that mirrors your balanced portfolio. With the take over of AVO his tech weightings are now 33% ( youth seems more comfortable with tech!). I am encouraging him to rebalance. Which do you think has the best 2+ year outlook. ATD.B, SLF, WSP or SJ on the recent pullback. Thank you for all your suggestions, this is a fun kind of “problem” to have!

Q: I own the above companies in my RIF account and want to make an “In Kind” trancfer to my TFSA as well as to my unregistered account. Which one or two do you see as having the best growth possibilities for the TFSA and which one or two would be most appropriate for my unregistered account?
Your advice is always appreciated - RAM

Q: Hello Peter, Ryan and company!

First off, congratulations on the Balanced Portfolio once again beating the TSX Index! Not an easy feat, since typically most paid money managers cannot.

Looking at 2018, with the U.S. tax reform Bill likely becoming a law today, what stocks covered by 5i benefit from a lower U.S. corporate tax rate and immediate expensing of capital purchases?

Happy Holidays to you and your family,
Angelo

Q: I am investing the 52000 plus whatever the amount is for 2018 in my wife's TFSA. With a 10-15 year time-frame might I be considering a couple of quality ETF's or would you advise the purchase of 5 or 6 quality stocks? What might you suggest to consider? She does like the Dollarama idea which you recently recommended. Also would you recommend holding off until the new year to get the ball rolling or invest now? Thanks

Q: I'm thinking of selling my position in Stella Jones. Its had a great recovery from $37, I'm up a decent amount, I think its showing some resistance around $50. I still think its a great company with a bright future, but am thinking of switching out of it for another stock that has much higher growth prospects or at the very least pays a much more reasonable dividend. It makes up the smallest portion of my portfolio (my other holdings are FTS, ZWE, BEP-UN, GSY, and MJN (Cronos)). I'm 39 years old, make above average income, and I definitely have a high risk threshold.

What are your thoughts on switching out of SJ right now for another company with faster/greater growth prospects? A dividend paying stock is nice, but definitely not necessary as all of my holdings pay dividends except for Cronos. I've been watching BTL since the spring when it was below $3, but that ship may have sailed as of this week.

If you're ok with selling SJ, can you please suggest some names that you think would make a good addition to my current holdings

Thanks - have a great weekend!

Q: WFT, SJ, OSB and LNR all seem to be getting hammered today - and I have searched and I don't see any bad news about any of these. Is this due to concerns over NAFTA - or is it something else?

Q: Hi Peter and Team,
For this year's RRIF payment, I need to sell approximately 14K of stocks as I've been almost fully invested over the last year, in large measure due to 5i's superb recommendations. The stocks listed above are in sectors where I am overweight. I have several questions, so please deduct credits as you see fit:
(1) If I sold CGX outright, I'd obtain roughly 14K and would reduce my total number of holdings and lower my overweight consumer discretionary stocks. Even though CGX has fallen from its lofty heights, I'm still up, especially when factoring in the accumulated dividends. Also, there would be only one sell transaction. Are you OK with this plan?
(2) Are there any others in the list that could/should be an outright sell?
(3) Or, would a better plan be to reduce holdings in each stock by taking profits?
Of course, this would mean more sell transaction fees.

As always, I defer to your recommendations, and have been rewarded for doing so. Thanks in advance.

Q: Hi guys, I'm looking at your response to 'who's likely to suffer when NAFTA gets torn up' (which seems increasingly likely)... I have held these for a long time and been VERY happy with all of them, but is it time to trim them down? Do you think the NAFTA threat is sufficiently priced in? I'd love to get your thoughts on each one. Thanks! PS -- you can ding me for 5 questions :-)
