- Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited Subordinate Voting Shares (FFH)
- ONEX Corporation Subordinate Voting Shares (ONEX)
Q: If one is moderately concerned about a potential market pullback, would ONEX be a good hedge? How does this stock react in market downturns compared to FFH?
Q: Merry Christmas to you folks
I have held Onex for many years and done well by it. I could add to it to bring it up to full position in a well diversified low risk portfolio. Just wondering about timing. I hear BNN guests talk about good times and bad times in the cycle to buy private equity type companies like Onex and KKR. Just wondering if this is a good time or better to wait for setback in market.
Thanks Stuart

Q: My portfolio is light in the financial sector (CXI) and and I was thinking of adding GS at about half position (25K) to my RRSP and/or cash account for at least a 5 year hold, likely much longer. Although the yield is very attractive, I would prefer more growth. I am about 5 years from retirement and will be fully funded from other sources. I have slightly above moderate risk tolerance. Please suggest 2-3 stocks from each Canada and US, and if possible provide a rating. Thanks.

Q: Can you tell me how much stock the company has bought back in each of this year, 2016 and 2015? Much appreciated.
Q: I recently heard an investment advisor outline the importance of diversifying beyond “public” equity and also invest in “private” equity (he was quoting the huge amount of private equity that public pension plans typically hold). Do you agree with this thesis and do you have any suggestions on how a retail investor could invest in private equity? Would buying a company like Onex be a good way to gain exposure to private equity?
Q: Could I please have your comments on Onex's recently announced earnings. Thank You.

Q: I have been planning to by Onex for a while and finally have some cash to do so, however, I noticed that it recently went up from 75$ to 81$. Is it too late to buy? I would start with about 1/3 of a position.
Q: A recent article by Thane Stenner in ROB suggests private equity as a natural hedge to swings in public equity and that the "smart money" which he implies is High Net Worth individuals are shifting more assets to private from public. For someone who is presently an aspiring member to the HNW club what would you suggest to participate in this area? I am currently holding both OCX and BAM, and looked at CVG (too illiquid), all of which have some fingers in this pie. Thanks, J.

Q: Onex is now down about 12% this year. Did I miss something or is this just the market reacting to a lack of new transactions?
Many thanks,
John
Many thanks,

Q: Hi, I'm interested in adding private equity to my portfolio for diversification purposes. I was thinking 5 percent of the porfolio. Is this an okay percentage? And what would you recommend for this? I was thinking OCX. Should I put the whole 5 percent in that name or what would you suggest for another name or two and what percent of the 5 in each?
Q: Could I please have your comments on Onex's recently announced earnings and your thoughts in general on this company. Thank You.
