Q: Hello,

What would one expect to have happen with shares of NHC that were held as of the delisting? Will these re-appear as US listed shares in the same account? What are the different outcomes that are possible?

I appreciated your recent blog post about the rebalancing trade potential for health care. Given there is so little to choose from in Canada would it be wise to look to US listed companies who have suffered as well. If so would it be better to go the etf route or do you have any company specific recommendations. Thanks again for your great service.

Q: I have a 1% weighting in Knight, with its recent addition to theTSE and its recent rise to new levels would it be advisable to double the weighting in a balanced diversified portfolio looking for some growth?

Q: How would you rate either of these two foreign banks on two different continents?

Q: In my 35-stock portfolio, I have a 9% overall weighting in the following:

ALA - 3%
ENB - 2.5%
TRP - 2.1%
BEP.UN - 1.4%

I am assuming that 9% is an "okay weighting" for this group (?) but my main question is, whether or not you see too much overlap in these stocks.

I know this group provides a mixture of storage and pipelines that move shale oil, crude, gas, etc. I also have exposure to renewable energy which has kept me from investing in other power-related stocks such as Fortis and Canadian Utilities.

Do you have any concerns about the weighting or overlap?

By the way, the only energy stock I have is TOU - 1.2%, if that makes any difference.

Q: While I loath owning material stocks given the geopolitical, operational and commodity price exposure, I see AEM on your portfolio has taken a beating and this might represent an entry point. Materials is a zero weighting in my portfolio at present. Time for a change of heart?

Q: HCG still is waiting for a banking license, once this is obtained and they can start taking deposits and diversify their revenue streams, some/many of the short sellers may get frustrated...for HCG, slow and steady wins the race, it is only a matter of time before HCG gets some more love for its merits. Is my rationale totally flawed or partly flawed? How do you see it? Thanks!

Q: If you had a choice between FB and SHOP, which would you choose. The stock will be in a RRSP and a long term hold (likely more than 5 years).

Is 5i planning to do report on Shopify? If so, I was wondering if you could address the following: Shopify now has a market cap in excess of $5B. It has negative earnings, and is not expected to make a profit in 2017. Its estimated revenues in 2017, according to Morningstar are approx $0.55B
To put this in perspective, Linamar has a market cap of $3.8B. It made $350M of free cash flow in 2015 and will increase that in 2016. This is AFTER some $375M of capital investment is subtracted from earnings. I realize they are in entirely different industries, but if I could magically own one company or the other outright today, I would choose LNR in a heartbeat.
The market is always right I suppose, and you have a 100% gain on SHOP in your growth portfolio. But at what point does the reality of fundamentals come into play?
I recall years ago when Ballard Power had a higher market cap than Loblaws. That happened.
P.S. Yes, I do have a case of sour grapes because I did not heed your advice and buy SHOP when you recommended it!

Q: Hello! I have received a decent sized amount of gifted funds (decent sized relative to my existing portfolio). I plan to spread it across my holdings which are almost entirely made up of the BE Portfolio. I know that usually January can be volatile. Would you 1) hold onto the gifted amount in cash for now and deploy later when the markets calm (February for example), 2) deploy now, knowing January can be volatile? Or if there is a better method you would recommend? Thanks!!

Q: Hi team, I've owned 1000 shares of PDN from 2007, my break even cost is 1.95 if I buy 4000 more today it would drop to .44 cents. I would do this only with the hope of a takeover, firstly, would this be possible considering its debt. I know you are not big fans of this, but what are your thoughts it's .04% of my portfolio.
