Q: I must be naive.I thought conference calls would be a grilling of the ceo. I have been reading the transcripts and they are usually love ins with analysts asking softball questions. Nothing has changed. I presume at the end of call the analyst hangs a strong buy on the stock and the other side of the bank calls the ceo preparing the placement to sell more shares. I think this would good info for followers of 5i since every other question on Bnn
Market call asks what the analysts rate the stock which drives me crazy.


Could you email the list of great canadian ceos I missed it?

Q: My emerging markets exposure is currently 100% weighted in India via Farifax India HLDGS. I am looking at adding either Russia (RSX) or South Africa (FAH-U) to the mix. Which country do you feel has the better growth potential or is there a third country you prefer at this time? Is this targeted country focus better than an emerging markets ETF like ZEM?

Q: 10,000 Americans a day will reach the age of 65 and this will continue for the next 19 years. That's 3,500,000 a year times 19 years. More walkers, hips, knees, wheelchairs, nursing homes, retirement homes, pain pills, drugs. More of what Savaria ( SIS ) produces. Great for Savaria !

What other Canadian & U.S. Companies will benefit from this great explosion of aging of America . Is Canada in a similar situation. Baby Boombers, Bob

Q: You were not enthused with this issue when it did an IPO on November 1,2016. Have you changed you view? If not what would you recommend as a good place to park cash.
The cash balance usually $100K would fluctuate; but would never go to Zero.

Q: I am considering selling DH now rather than wait for closing of the sale. I would like to replace it with 1 of the 3 mentioned. Which of these 3 would you suggest or do you have another good alternative. I am thinking that my replacement would likely make up for the amount lost by not waiting for the closing of the DH sale. It does not have to be a Dividend payer.

Q: Hi 5i team,

I'm looking to add a 5-10% Gold position to my portfolio and would appreciate your views on this line of thinking.
Do you consider Gold as a volatility hedge a worth while endeavour? And if so, what 2 or 3 companies would you recommend for a Balanced portfolio approach?

Q: This is in response to your answer to Stan(1) in regards to dividend income and DRIP plans.
I agree that taxable Canadian dividend income does not reduce the A.C.B. of the stock shares held, but then neither does the market value of the shares received under a DRIP. In fact the value of the shares at the time of the dividend payment is added to the A.C.B of your share holdings at the same time that you are credited with the additional shares. For reduce of A.C.B., are you not referring to "Return of Capital" which would be noted on the Corporate website under dividends/distributions and can be found in the appropriate box on your T5/T3 supplementary slips received each year.
