Q: Hi. I have a question about Altagas. When the company converts the receipts to common shares next year, investors will only benefit if ALA is higher than what a person paid for ALA.R. Recently, I found the common share price has been drifting lower and lower than the receipt. At this point, what's the benefit of buying ALA.R? Currently, ALA common shares receive a higher dividend %. I'm thinking to buy ALA or ALA.R for income. Which one should I choose, or are there any others that you would recommend? Q: Hi Peter: I currently hold ZWH in my rrsp and as it is the only U.S. exposure that I have, am wondering what you else you would suggest as a compliment to it. ZWH currently is 6 % of my overall portfolio. I am looking for something of a moderate risk to hold for 3-5 years or longer.

Q: Good Morning: In my non-registered account I hold a number of equities on the Cdn. side of the portfolio that pay their dividends in USD. I am thinking about moving some or all of these over to the US side as a means of capturing some USD income. I am not particularly concerned about currency impact believing that over the long term the ups and downs will average out given the current vs historic USD/CAD relationship. My question here is simply whether or not there is some aspect of this move that I have not considered -- e.g. tax implications, buy/sell issues, etc. As always, thanks for your opinion.

Q: Curious to know your take on recent weakness? Just market jitters and short term profit taking? Or, would investors be concerned about the company splitting in two and not wanting to be around for that event? Any backdrop on companies splitting in two being positive or not....I've seen some positive evidence but is such a company specific thing...

Q: I have plenty of dividend income and am now interested in adding stocks or ETFs which pay distributions as RoC. Would you have a list of tax effective equities? And what are your views of using stocks/ETFs with a high Return of Capital as a means of improving the tax effectiveness of portfolios? I have heard experts on BNN who are not in favor of RoC but I tend not to agree since my biggest expense is tax.

Q: I am surprised that you bought CGX in the income portfolio today. Even though it is down substantially it still trades at an EBITDA/EV multiple that is significantly higher than US comparables. I know that CGX is well-run, but has little growth and under GAAP accounting has not covered its dividend in 5 of the past 7 years. This does not seem to be a good stock for a conservative income portfolio. What am I missing? In your answer I would welcome a comparison to Corus Entertainment, which also offers little growth, but at least the dividend is well covered and would seem like a much safer choice for income.

Q: there is an article by robert tattersall in last saturdays globe where he talks about price to sales ratios -- psrs, and he quotes various experts who say never buy a company with a psr more than three, shopify was 15.5 at the time, today probably 17, we all know shopify is expensive but this is ridiculous. and he says it never ends good, never.can you comment. dave
