Q: Good day I have a large gain in the above stocks in an outside account. I am thinking of taking half off the table and putting it into a canadian dividend etf VDY. I understand that i would have to pay some tax but i would net a higher dividend from VDY than the other three and i live from my dividends. Or should i just leave them to grow as each is about a 4% position in my total portfolio. Could you please give me your thoughts on this....Gene

Q: Peter; The appointment of Brian Levitt, TD chairman, seems a bit odd to me- very small company with a good future but a very high profile name , Do you know if any share options were involved? Any comments? Thanks. Rod

Q: Hi 5i
I know COV was removed from your portfolio but if you still held it (as I decided to do) ... how much more time would you give it to "show me" a reason to continue to hold it?
Is there any optimism left for this one?
Thanks
Mike

Q: Let's suppose Ottawa increases the capital gains inclusion rate, say jan2,2021.
Would that increased rate apply to capital gains prior to Jan 2,2021 or to capital gains from jan2,2021 ?

Q: Do you know how brokerage firms determine maximum margin on specific stocks? About a year ago one could have 70% margin on GIL but it dropped to 50% a few months ago while a much smaller company like SIS continued to have 70% margin. Just recently GIL went back to 70% margin. I thought larger companies that pay dividends like GIL generally have 70% margin.
Q: Hi again,
Re: CMD - CANTEL MEDICAL (not COMMANDER RESOURCES)
My previous question was about Cantel Medical in the US, just to clarify.
Thanks again.

Q: You sometimes mention that a particular stock would be OK for a basket of small-cap stocks. I am intrigued. I think you mean like a mini ETF where you track the whole as one investment. I think I have done something like that with a very tiny portion of my overall investments. I have a separate little portfolio with these 4 stocks, KUT, QST, MTLO, PNG. This group has been doing well so far this year with the exception of KUT. But I am interested to learn what stocks you might suggest for such a “basket”. Also how many stocks would you put in it?
Q: Should there be concerns that JE will not be able to meet its financial obligations on this convertible debtenture?
Q: Do you have an explanation why ECN.PR.A is trading below par? I would have thought with its 6.5% guaranteed coupon rate that it would not be trading below par.
Q: What stocks would you look at to profit from the respiratory virus which is showing up in China right now? Thank you.

Q: Hi There,
Can you provide your opinion of the debt level of this small cap REIT company?
In the event of a recession would you expect the company to still honor
all it's debt obligations comfortably?
Do residential REIT stocks generally perform better than the overall market during a
recession?
thanks for your comments!

Q: Good morning- two questions. Last year, with your guidance, I invested in Gild and it, like many other non-growth stocks in the US, has languished. I noted a comment you made recently that GILD would have to wait and hope for another day in the sun. Is it time to sell GILD and move into a different health care in the US, and where do you suggest I go?
Second, after reading a dogs of the banks analysis, I thought that CM shares would likely have a robust end to 2020. So far I’m down 5%. Your thoughts on CM these days as far as the coming year is concerned. I’m a very patient investor with a twenty year horizon and bank dividends do look solid. Thankks
